VIDEO: Detwiler at NatsFest

Last weekend at NatsFest I had the chance to interview Ross Detwiler and ask him about his eventful offseason. He also had some interesting stuff about how having success against the Cardinals in the playoffs last year could help him to have a strong 2013.

Ross is going to have a tremendous year. Can't wait to watch it.

Looking forward to seeing Det pitch this season. I believe he will continue to improve and be impressive the whole year.

Nice interview from Detwiler, interesting stuff.

Last season I bought a Detwiler shirt (no jersey available) on impulse after he pitched the game when the Nats clinched a playoff berth. I wore it to game 4 of the playoffs and several people asked me if I was his father.

This year maybe a few more people will have Det's number on their backs.

Holden Baroque said...

"Ross, I AM your father."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Great idea for a promo on Fathers Day--have the available dads of players throw out the first pitch to their sons, while wearing Darth Vader masks.

Or better yet, for that day, have John Adams in a Vader mask.

Who is John Adams?

Anything new on Gio?

Doc said...

Det must be stubborn.

Davey and Cat were after him all season to mix in his other pitches with his FB earlier in innings count.

Now Det says he's going to do it in 2013. He has yet to reach his potential, and we may see it in the coming season.

GoooooooooooooooooooooNats!!!

BigCat, there's not going to be anything new on Gio for a while. The process will take time on the MLB end, and Gio isn't talking. Other than saying that he's innocent and the process will uphold that, he really, really shouldn't say anything more. When they say "anything you say can be held against you" they're not kidding. Even the most innocuous statement can be portrayed as something disingenuous or sinister, and God help you if your memory fails you on some irrelevant thing - that will be portrayed as lying, and will be used to undermine your credibility generally.

NatsLady said...

BigCat, no. Just this article in WaPo, saying he hasn't been seen or heard from. If I were Gio, I would take a vacation in Hawaii or something until Spring Training.

I also feel that Det is going to have a great season. The mature National Det is one fine young man. Starting to rival Gio in the sparkly personality department. Of course he is well- spoken. His mom is an English teacher. So many smart guys on this team! UVA, Stanford- yikes.

Detwiler has the tools, and has shown them at times, to be the Nats' #2 starter. And might have to be this season.

You have learned much, young one.

(Re. the WaPo article, not sure why it's news that he's keeping a low profile but whatever.)

What super bowl? I want baseball.

That reminds me, I'd better get to cooking the chili so we can have a super bowl of it later. (I do watch for the commercials, though. :-))

Spelling the players' names and auto- correct. Grrrrr.

There is baseball. ESPND has the Carribean World Series. Plus you improve your Spanish.

waddu, I sent you email.

I just read this in an article about the NFL. I wonder how baseball players feel about their doctors.

...the players' union released a survey showing eight out of 10 players don't trust team doctors.

Understandable, when they serve at the pleasure of their employers. Even more understandable if you play in San Diego, where the team doctor lost a malpractice lawsuit last summer and the Medical Board of California wants to revoke his medical license.

baseballswami said...

Ok, I will watch- but mostly for the commercials. Yawn.

Just because it's slow

Four years into an eight-year, $180M contract, Mark Teixeira knows he’s overpaid, aging

Who is John Adams?

An 18th century community organizer.

I always kinda liked Detwiler when he was getting his [teeth] kicked here in the comments. Now I find myself much less certain than others hat he will repeat 2012's success. Life's funny.

I'll bet Jesus Flores does.

baseballswami said...

Scooter- it's not just the way he pitched , it's an obvious maturity. Like a different guy. He had the stuff, he is smart, but now he just seems to have gotten his head on straight.

Faraz Shaikh said...

how many quarters are there in this game?

baseballswami said...

Too many.

baseballswami said...

So if squirrels and napkins can cause changes in momentum- can lights?

Scooter said...

That's fine, swami. I'm just saying I don't buy into it. Just like I didn't buy that he couldn't do it before. I sure hope he does, of course.

Holden Baroque said...

And me, I was never much of a fan since he was drafted, but I came around sometime this past year. Go figure.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic and Mexico are trying to give each other this game in the CWS. Luis Ayala in now for Mexico, 5-5.
