Soriano's visa approved

VIERA, Fla. -- Rafael Soriano is en route to Nationals spring training after his work visa was approved this morning in the Dominican Republic.

The Nationals' newly signed closer had been unable to report with his fellow pitchers and catchers on Tuesday because he was still waiting on paperwork in his native country. He missed Thursday's first official workout and again wasn't present for today's session on the practice fields adjacent to Space Coast Stadium but could be in uniform as soon as Saturday morning.

"The word I got was they stamped his visa this morning," manager Davey Johnson said. "I don't know what the travel plans are, but I imagine he'll be here sometime tomorrow. I'm not worried about that. I'm glad he got his visa."

Soriano, 33, signed a two-year, $28 million contract -- $14 million of that is deferred -- on January 17, a surprising move considering the Nationals already had two other right-handers with closing experience in Drew Storen and Tyler Clippard.

Johnson, though, plans to use Soriano (who saved 42 games last season for the Yankees) as his primary closer, with Storen getting some opportunities when Soriano needs a break.

Gio's name NOT on the latest list (whew!) so far. A-Rod, Braun, Melky, and Cervelli on a handwritten list with "MLB" and dollar amounts.

Help once again insiders. When I look at Mark's little twitter updates, if I clicked on one of the blue things inside the tweet, where will that take me? Again, I am on the computer and will never have a phone that tweets or even chirps.

NatsLady, just more cloak & dagger unnamed sources. Notice how the biggest names are on that paper with Cervelli the NY Yankee.

No credibility.

Clicking on the blue hyperlinks in Mark's tweets will take you to whatever web page it is. Clicking on a blue hashtag will take you to a webpage showing the associated tweets. You don't have to have a Twitter account to see them.

SJM..if it looks like this: bit.ly/VZvQc2 it will take you to the story. It's a hyper link.

If it's looks like this #Nats then it will open up twitter and show you all the tweets that will have that # in it

How do you use it if it is not blue?

Sec. 3, My Sofa said...

Swami, what do you mean by "use it"? If you are seeing it, and it isn't a link, that is all you get.

baseballswami said...

If it is blue you touch it and it links. If it is black it doesn't . I know how to highlight it and paste it into the search block on a computer. How do you do it on an I phone?

Sec. 3, My Sofa said...

Oh, wait, you mean if it's blue like this, as opposed to not blue, like this: bit.ly/VZvQc2 ?

The blue ones are active hyperlinks you can click on and go places. The not-blue ones are just text, but if they are an "address" so to speak, you can copy and paste them like any other link. Or not.

Looks like we need a new entry in the How-To pages of el NIDO de NatsFans.

Swami, perhaps this brief tutorial will be of some assistance.

As will teh Google. "how to copy and paste on an iPhone" brought that link up as the first result.

OK, now my posts are getting swallowed by the SPAM-filter monster again. See, that's how I wind up owing so many drinks.

sjm, I don't have a Tweeter either, and my phone is of the not-so-smart variety. What I do is bookmark the "Tweeter home pages" of Mark and other beat writers and navigate to them that way. Here's the one for Mark:

Right, sec3. It must be the spam monster. Well, at least you didn't say that the dog ate your cell phone. ;-)

Of course, my cat does weird stuff to my computer all the time, so nevermind.
