VIDEO: Davey Johnson one-on-one

Comcast SportsNet's Kelli Johnson sat down with Nats manager Davey Johnson yesterday to discuss the team's first place standing as they head into the All-Star break. Here is an exclusive preview of the interview which will be released in three parts in the coming days. Johnson talks about how difficult it is to stay atop a division as competitive as the N.L. East.

How about a one-on-one video of Davey pwning Kilgore last night?

Must be in here somewhere.

Wow - I missed that last night. Davey was just a tad irritable.

Last night, during Charlie's interview, Davey said twice, "I didn't know that" - once when he said that Detwiler just had some tightness in his hip, the trainers said it was nothing, and Charlie said: "That's the hip he had surgery on." The other time, I can't remember, and I hope someone here can, because it was remarkable. I thought, "Davey's going to get mad." I admire Davey's security in himself. He's honest in saying that he was learning something of import for the first time. Has Detwiler re-injured his hip? When Davey dismissed Drew Pomeranz as "just a thrower, not a pitcher" he seemed angry that an 0-3, 5.40 ERA guy had nearly no-hit his club. I would not want to be the one who didn't fully inform Davey about Detwiler. Wasn't last night Davey's worst nightmare - impotent offense, which could cost this team the playoffs? Do you think the Yankees would have been 1 hit by Drew Pomeranz last night?

Davey was mad about Rizzo, too, the first time I've seen a chink in that relationship. Said very sharply that he didn't say Stras would be moved back in the rotation, said "Check your records, Rizzo said that." Then he seemed to calm down and realize better not go public if they are disagreeing on Stras.

Davey is not the only one that was angry that an 0-3, 5.40 ERA pitcher nearly no-hit the Nats. My problem was I had too high of an expectation for our Nats. I do remember looking at the Rockies batting averages on the score board and thinking "hey, they're pretty good"

How I miss "Nats at Night" when they would re-play the radio broadcast at midnight in 2005! Is there any way to get replays of the radio interviews? I'd love to listen again to Charlie's interview of Davey last night. There were two revelations from Charlie to Davey that might explain his ire, although last night's game is explanation enough.

Here's a surprise. No one picked up Doug Slaten and he's been optioned to AAA.

Would the Yankees have been one-hit by Pomeranian last night? Quite possibly. The Yankees are a feast or famine offense; they often score fewer than two runs. Of course, they also often score more than eight. And they tend to struggle with pitchers that they haven't seen before. It happens.

I'm sorry, but you gotta admire this, whether you like CMW or not. I mean, it's HOT out there.

Of course Davey is going to be irritable ... and with Rizzo. Its that time of the year ... and Rizzo has a chance to improve the team with trades. The draft may end up as a close-to-complete failure ... they are relying on potential sleepers if they don't sign Giolito.

Rizzo has to be lobbying Davey about trades ... and Davey seems to like what he has ... it'll be interesting to see how this ends up.

He deserves SOME credit.

He's going to be a good one ... and right now he looks like the best starter the Rockies have but it'll take him some time to get acclimated.

Davey seems more than a bit agitated by "other" things and it came out in the post-game interview. He wears his heart on his shirt sleeve and always has.

In time I guess we'll find out what those other things are ...

Sorry Natslady but I do think Morse needs another stint on the DL. If he comes out of the break like this they'll have to do something I imagine. Right now it looks like he can't run.

Given the surgery, the complications and the number of years it took him to get this far? That's nothing short of Herculean.

But, Wang still does not look like a major league pitcher ... he would get rocked in AAA and AA as well. He has a single pitch JUST ONE and always has and its the power sinker. If it doesn't sink he gets rocked. If it sinks but there's no velocity but the 3rd of 4th he gets rocked. Over the three years of rehab he tried to add additional pitchers to his repertoire. They are terrible.

Either way you slice it he is not the guy to replace Strasburg at the innings limit and Johnson knows it ... (another reason to be agitated). Rizzo knows it. Major league baseball knows it. They should have traded him when they had the chance earlier on.

peric, not disagreeing. As I said, Morse looked bad in RF until the end, I thought maybe he took pain meds and it kicked in. They need to give serious consideration to an AL trade over the winter.

In one of Zim's interviews yesterday he stated that there isn't a player in Major League Baseball that isn't dinged up in July. Obviously Morse can play and run, temporarily ,or he would be sitting. They know the break is coming. I am guessing that something hurts on every single body right now. Davey is not young and I am sure that the pressures of the game, the off field stuff like the trade deadline and signing Giolito are on his mind, too. Not to mention how the heat, the travel and the altitude must have affected him, also. With Rizzo and Davey - two strong personalities. Rizzo has been the final authority most times I would say - I don't think he intervenes in lines ups and playing time, but certainly everything else. I think they are pretty like-minded but don't always agree. I would hate to be in the room when they clash.
