Espinosa gets good news on shoulder

US Presswire photo
Danny Espinosa hopes to return to the lineup for Wednesday's doubleheader.
As he tried to swing at pitches during Sunday night's game in Atlanta, unable to generate any power or bat speed with his left shoulder, Danny Espinosa started fearing the worst.

"I thought it was a labrum tear," he said.

An MRI taken on Espinosa's shoulder on Monday, however, not only allayed those fears but left the Nationals second baseman as upbeat as he's been in a week. The actual diagnosis: a bone bruise in his shoulder's capsule, treated with a cortisone shot that may allow Espinosa to return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday.

"This is the best news that we could have gotten," he said. "If this was a rotator cuff tear or a labrum tear, it would have lingered the rest of the season. I would have had to have surgery in the offseason. This is the best. I didn't think there was going to be a bruise in there, but this was definitely the best news we could have gotten."

As Mark Says.. A round of cortisone shots for everyone!

Go ESPI!!!!!

I needed one in my right elbow in April and it felt great since.

The sad part is you read Danny said he had no power in his shoulder but kept his mouth shut; like so many athletes he didin't think of what was best for the team in a crucial series. Not coming down on him but sometimes being a 'competitor' leads to bad decisions. Lets hope the shot gets him feeling good.

Off-topic by ESPN's E60 (usually not my cup of tea) piece on Teddy was hilarious. Sen. John McCain (usually not my cup of tea) was tremendously funny, tongue-in-cheek. So glad to see a pol go along with a gag now and then, after taking themselves so seriously in their day job.

Marlins up by one! Maybe we can get number to go down tonight even without playing!

Eovaldi has pitched a gem -- 8 IP, 4 hits, 0R, 2 BB, 5 K.

Pennant races are funny things -- never envisioned myself fervently cheering on the Fish, much less the Phils this weekend. But I am and will!

Good news about Espi. So, now we need a cortisone shot in Morse's wrist, and a couple in LaRoche's legs just to see if he can improve his speed.

I fully expect to see an ad for cortisone just above the batters eye at my next game at Nats park!

Will be there Sat and Mon. Who will be at the park?

And, as much as it pains me to say it: Go Fish!

Or perhaps GYFFG! is better, for a couple of reasons. ;-)

Hard to believe how close Ruggiano was to catching McCann's ball

They actually intentionally walked Baker in front of Michael Bourn to pitch to Bourn and they K'd him.

Miami needs a walk-off here.

Freakin' Ozzie could screw up a 1-car funeral.

ok, Fish, 1 freaking run!

JaneB said...

Okay. Credit where credit is due. These Braves scare me. C'mon Fish!

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

I started the coverage on other post .

Ozzie takes out pitcher who was pitching great brings in two guys who gave away the lead

Reyes on third

Oh please oh please.

Rugianno looked like Espi strikes out on 2-2 count on 5 pitches none in the strike zone

Sunshine_Bobby_Carpenter_Is_Too_Pessimistic_For_Me said...

C'mon Marlins: pretend it's Jason Bergmann on the mound.

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

Peterson pisses me off too. He didnt the McCann fly.

Then strikes on 3 pitches two out of strike zone he swings. The one over the middle he does nkthing.

The Friday night Marlin game vs. Nats he is on base 5 times.

Need a wild pitch as the hitters arent hitting

Extra innings after 2 on and no out

Marlins really do hate the Nats. Doing everything to annoy me even when they are not paying the nats.

Gonat said...

Oh boy, Heath Bell in for the Marlins for the 10th

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

Another reason I hate the Marlins. Always have always will.

Man on third and the batters swing at crap to prevent the runs from scoring.

Peterson outside of Ozzie is highest on my hate lisr along with Steve Sichek and Mike Dunn. Both did terrible.

Faraz Shaikh said...

I get we are trying to widen the gap between us and braves, but reading comments here, I feel like we are the ones who are trailing braves by five games for division lead.

Gonat said...

Heath Bell gets it done! Come on Fish!

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

I want to win ever game. I want the Braves to lose every game. Not desperate just a fact.

Heath Bell shocks the world 3 up 3 down

Steady Eddie said...

Manassas -- Ozzie was right to take Eovaldi out -- he's a very young (22 year old) pitcher who was at 114 pitches after the 8th.

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

He was not laboring at all. i know all the guys do that now. I started watching ball to long ago as I would let him pitch until someone got on in the 9th. Now a days that doesnt happen. When bull pen is poor you need to stay away.

Of course all pitchers on most teams pitch to way to many pitches per batter.

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

Got the winning run on second one iut Solano up

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

Solano strikes out on a pitch a foot outside. They dont swing the Nats that bad do they?

Marlins made Michael Bourn look like a hack tonight. 0-5 and the starter Eovaldi is RH. In fact they actually intentionally walked a batter in front of Bourn to pitch to him.

Wow Mark must be watching 'cause the magic number changed already.

Wow Mark must be watching 'cause the magic number changed already.

He had his finger poised over the key just like we would in his place.

So the Fish got the one out of three I predicted they would this afternoon. Good they did that because even though the Fish have Johnson starting tomorrow, it'll take a miracle for them to win as the Barves are starting Medlen.

So anything else in this series is gravy!

peric said...

Fielder and Cabrera bombed the heck out of the A's. Cabrera now has 40 HR's.

Steady Eddie said...

The Phils are starting Kendrick (against Hanson), Halladay, and Lee against the Barves this weekend. We may even pick up a couple of magic numbers in that series....

peric said...

The Nats need to take care of business with the Dodgers and Brewers. Then the Braves will be stuck attempting to fend off the Phillies terrific charge to try to be the 2nd wild card. I think I'd be on the Phils over the Braves.

Meanwhile the Nats get to look forward to 6 grinder games against the Philthies and Cards.

That last series against the Phils at home might end up being very interesting.

Gonat said...

If the Nats win both games tomorrow vs Dodgers, the Nats clinch a playoff berth.

Gonat said...

St. Louis has a real easy path to the Wild Card. They just need to beat Houston and the Cubs for 9 of their remaining games and they should just about cash their ticket.

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

Any suggestio how I can check? I text during most games with 5 guys. I have not recieved a text from any of them. Cant believe all are ignoring me. In other words wondering if on the smart phone the dumb operator could have turned off his sending text out.

Seven games in the loss column with the Braves down to 13 to play feels huge. They can't un-lose games.

natsfan1a said...

Good news about Danny.

Also glad that the Fish got it done in the end. Was watching the baseline on MLB Network and couldn't believe the Barves tied it up in the 9th. At the time, I wondered whether it was Bell in the 9th, but it sounds like he saved the day instead. Heh.

ehay, I'll be at the park on Saturday and Sunday. Don't think I'll make it on Monday due to deadline issues.

Nice article by Svrluga on the real "exposremains" still with the Nats. Its a shame they couldn't have given Seth Bynum a cup of coffee during this season at age 30. Would've been a nice touch to have them all together in the clubhouse.

Manassas Nats' Fan said...

Reds win. They 1 GB 2 more losses. You cannot unlose a games.

Thanks, MNF. Can't help on solving smart phone issues as I have only a not-so-smart phone myself. Had you sent a text to any of the folks you'd not heard from? Other than that, no ideas. Maybe because it's past my bedtime and my brain is fuzzy. Good night. :-)

I've been slammed at work and ducking in here on occasion, so I don't know whether this has been discussed.

On the front of the Nats' minor league page on their website, there's an interesting reappraisal of the Nats' top 20 minor league prospects.

Beyond the royal top four -- Rendon, Meyer, Goodwin, Giolito -- I'm surprised that they still list Chris Marrero as the Nats' fifth-best prospect. They also remain high on center fielder Michael Taylor.

Injuries and ineffectiveness have pushed Purke and Solis down.

Matt Skole is No. 12 with a bullet and Jason Martinson -- the shortstop with 100 RBIs, 30 stolen bases and an invite to the AFL -- checks in at No. 17.

You can find the list by googling Washington Nationals minor league affiliates.

Doubt if many read this as late as it is but we just got back from 12 days in So. California. Great trip except for these last few days as I watched our lads stumble a bit. Really really weird to be seeing stuff in the early afternoon and actually having football on at 10 in the AM. We had full agendas so sports took a back seat but I was able to read NI and the Post so I was up to date.

Really happy with the Braves loss and its just so funny to be rooting for one team and against another. This is totally new territory for this old fan and I just want us to win the division.

Petco Park was nice but I could not get into the game at all. Lots of Cards fans and they are not obnoxious. Padres came back to win the game I went to but I was out of there after 5 innings as the spousal equivalent had made it clear, there were other priorities.

OK, back to Nats Park tomorrow!! Can't wait. We need Morse hacking, Bryce running until he scores and the pitching to shut down the Dodgers.

Go Nats!! Go Playoffs!! Score First!!

Sunshine_Bobby_Carpenter_Is_Too_Pessimistic_For_Me said...

I would be shocked if Chris Marrero ever plays another game in the major leagues, much less for the Nats. First, there's ALR. Then there's Tyler Moore. Then there's Morse. Marrero absolutely cannot play any other position other than first base, and he's barely adequate there. In his stint last year, I thought the guy lacked power, was slow and was really a rather generic AAAA player. I think this list must either be a) old or b) not taken seriously. Marrero's ship has sailed.

Anybody else still up, watching the dreaded O's?

Morning, folks - lurking but slammed by work and life in general. Usually by this time in September I an following baseball on the fringes of life. This year is really a challenge. Nice problem. Cheer for the team for me - my Nats- watching will be of the DVR variety for the most part. Can Cortisone shots become an official sponsor for the Nats? - just slap a cheesy moustache on someone and make up silly commercials.

On Danny and his cortisone shot, if his shoulder was barking and he believes that was the problem and it feels better now, that hopefully is enough to give him the placebo effect which is mind over matter.

Lets see if he also shortens that swing in the process!
