The Nationals will have Stephen Strasburg (3-5, 2.54 ERA) back who was reinstated from the disabled list this morning. He last pitched on May 31 before leaving after two innings against the Atlanta Braves. This is his first time pitching at Progressive Field since the second start of his career. If you remember, Strasburg had issues with the mound condition that day, but still went 5 1/3 innings with only two hits and a run allowed.
Pitching for Cleveland is third-year pro Corey Kluber (4-4, 4.08) who has really hit his stride as of late. Through his last six starts he is 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 35 innings.

I assume we lose every Haren game too. That way when he occasionally wins, it's a pleasant surprise rather than another disappointment.

Imma start taking shots every time I see him and that notebook... I swear for his nose to be in it so much, I haven't seen where our situational hitting isn't better... I'm not understanding why we didnt have more pop ups today and sacrificial hits/bunts.... Ugh...

Eck has anyone ever seen him talk to a batter before or after an AB? maybe his style is to do so behind closed doors but man,if you are a hitting coach, repeat hitting coach, you should be talking non-stop to each & every batter before & after each AB (within reason), whether it be feedback, instruction, in the underground cage, etc...have never seen it with Eck...could be TV is not showing it but I doubt it. With the offense (or lack thereof) that we have seen, it should be non-stop interaction...otherwise, why is he here?

Do you see pitching coaches on other teams doing this? I don't think so. In fact, I don't ever recall seeing a dugout shot of any team where a hitting coach was talking to a hitter before and after his at bat. Geez, they'd have to put up a sign saying take a number for faster service.
Davey does seem a bit laid back after games, but do you know why? It is because he has a better perspective than the average fan. He has been involved in thousands of games and he knows that quirky things happen all the time in baseball over 162+ games.
Bob Costas made a great comment about the Mets' excessive celebration after their "walk-off" victory (is there any other kind nowadays?). This is not the NFL and one game lost is close to meaningless in a sense.
Another thing we all are guilty of is trying to impute meaning to an outcome in baseball. The Cards beat us in game five--it is because they have experience or because they are built for the post-season or because (add your own in here).
No, the Cards beat us because there was an umpire with a generous hitter's strike zone and because they had good hitters who made up an early deficit. They went on to lose, to the Giants.
Over and over, we see incredible victories in baseball followed by numbing losses. The random element to the sport is huge. That doesn't mean we didn't play a lousy game today. We did and it still perturbs me,
caps fan, not pitching coaches...but rather hitting coaches and yes i have seen hitting coaches talking, discussing, in the dug-out, namely Mark McGwire...instant feedback i think would be good after an AB & maybe its happening, just have not seen it.

MrsB., can you confirm but looked like a safety squeeze to score that 3rd run for ATL...correct? i was in between channels.
Of course I can't rewind the TV... But it looked like a suicide to me... But it may have been a safety becuz the runner looked like he was home as soon as the ball was on the ground...
I just know it worked and it instantly pissed me off thinking about today and the score.....

No, it isn't. Many on this blog were calling for it as long ago as the AFL season last fall, including yours truly. That is called "foresight," not "hindsight." Sticking with Espinosa when they had a prodigious talent like Rendon was the worst management mistake since the Nats relocated to DC.
