CHICAGO -- The Nationals are planning to recall outfielder Roger Bernadina from Class AAA Syracuse following tonight's game, according to two sources within the organization.

Bernadina was slated to play tonight for Syracuse at Toledo, but he was a late scratch from the lineup. He's expected to arrive in Chicago in time for tomorrow afternoon's series finale against the Cubs.

The Nationals will have to demote someone following tonight's game. They may consider dropping a reliever and proceeding with a six-man bullpen for the time being, taking advantage of off-days coming up Thursday and Monday.

Bernadina has been among the hottest hitters in the minors and today was named the International League's offensive player of the week. In 14 games at Syracuse, the 25-year-old is batting .377 with two homers, eight RBI and seven stolen bases.

This will be Bernadina's second stint in the majors this season. He appeared in only one game during his first stop and was optioned to Syracuse April 14 to make room for fellow outfielder Justin Maxwell.

Bye Bye Willie T... I'm guessing.

Please, please, please. But I think the reason they are making this move is lack of position depth. Simply replacing him for another position player is not addressing the fact that Pudge is ailing, Zim is ailing, and Harris is ailing and they don't really want to DL those guys. You might as well just DL Willie Harris in my opinion, though.

Strasburg does everything but drive the team bus. He just singled home the go ahead run in a 1-0 game and is pitching a no hit shutout in Reading. Time to Cheer, Cheer, Cheer for the Chiefs Strasburg fans.

Maybe it's Jesse English? Send him down just because they can? It doesn't look like there are a lot of relief pitchers with options. Well...relief pitchers with options who aren't performing, that is.

Send Bruney down, and send a message

We haven't had to use English too much, either. Too bad for him because he hasn't done much to warrant a send down but I think it's too early to give up on Bruney.

Well I just lost a lot of respect for Randy Knorr. Pulling Strasburg when he’s pitching a no hitter is horrible. Any chance at a no hitter at any level should not be missed.

Are you nuts? There's an odometer on Strasburg's innings - what's more valuable to you and to the franchise? Three or four more innings in the bushes against a bunch of maybes or never wases or have those innings in August and September against big league hitters?

No one cares about minor league no hitters.

Willie Harris maybe to the DL?

I hope they play Bernadina a lot and give him a real chance to prove what he can do at the major league level. He has tremendous upside -- seemingly much more than any of the other alternatives.

I'm anxious to see him play but ultimately I see him as a centerfielder. He'll have to beat out Morgan to stick as a starter long term.

You are right Alexva. But for this season, he will have go get his at bats playing right field.
