Zimmermann is NL Pitcher of Month

Jordan Zimmermann went 4-0 with an 0.97 ERA in six July starts.
Jordan Zimmermann was named NL Pitcher of the Month for July this afternoon, becoming the third different member of the Nationals rotation to receive that award in four months this season.

Zimmermann went 4-0 with an 0.97 ERA in six starts, the most dominant stretch of a consistently superb season for the 26-year-old. The right-hander leads the majors with 19 quality starts and is the only pitcher in the sport to have thrown at least six innings in all 21 of his outings.

This award is becoming old hat for the Nationals, who already saw Stephen Strasburg win Pitcher of the Month honors in April and Gio Gonzalez win it in May. This after the franchise had only one Pitcher of the Month winner over the previous seven years: Chad Cordero (June 2005).

According to Major League Baseball, the last time an NL team had three different pitchers earn monthly honors in one season was 1979, when Ken Forsch, Joe Niekro, Joaquin Andujar and J.R. Richard of the Astros all won Pitcher of the Month.

Highly deserving. Zimm'nn is our secret weapon no longer. Way to go, Bulldog.

Well deserving from last season and this. Just don't push it JZimmnn beyond 190 given the shoulder issues that have cropped up.

We've already got one Tom Gorzelanny pitching in relief, we don't need another.

There goes his arbitration price!

There goes his arbitration price!

I'm certain that will never be an issue where JZimmnn is concerned.

Henry to DL-- his back flared up recently. Y'know.

Davey said he preferred to send Tyler Moore down to give him a chance at more at-bats. But Henry's back flared up recently.

Sending Moore down would leave him with just DeRosa as a right-hander on the bench. I think his reasoning was bit more selfish perhaps?

Now that Lombo is on the bench again they should drop DeRosa and bring up Corey Brown again.

Lombo not on the bench -- he plays second.

peric, oh, yes. What Davey says, what Davey thinks--two different items.

I am thinking that this off season might be a good time for an extension.

I am happy to have Werth back and another bat in the dugout. I also like that HRod will not be around to drive us all crazy for the next month or so. My question is, how does the dl work? Do they actually have to prove an injury or can it just be "back issues". If there is no proof needed then I think Wang should tweak his groin or something in his last rehab and that will give us even more time to make sure things are set for the Sept 1 call ups.

Actually as I think this through, I really think they should just let Wang go and get that experiment in the rear view mirror. We have 5 guys right now, LannEn will hopefully be the 6th and if he is not the guy we have a couple more in AAA that will get some kind of a shot in Sept.

Really need to take deep breaths and not worry about Hamels tonight. Natslady did help with her math for the remainder of the season.

Go Nats!

By the way, as one who was pushing for JZimmnn to get the nod on opening day, this makes me very happy! I also feel like if we go to a one game playoff he is a lock to start and gives us a great chance to win. I am a little concerned with the shoulder tightness but hopefully it is not a huge deal.

Go Nats!!

Yes, he does - apparently it's been a really long time since 3 pitchers from the same staff have been honored in the same season.
