Scoring change ends Morse's streak

US Presswire photo
Michael Morse had a hit from the game on June 2 taken away from him.
PHOENIX -- Michael Morse left the ballpark in Houston Thursday night with an 18-game hitting streak attached to his name. He arrived at the ballpark in Arizona Friday afternoon with that streak reduced to seven games, even though he hadn't picked up a bat or faced an opposing pitcher in the 18 hours between those two events.

How does that happen? Turns out Major League Baseball overruling the scoring of one of Morse's at-bats from the Nationals' Aug. 2 game, changing a single to an error on Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins.

Thus, what was believed to be an 18-game hitting streak for Morse (the third-longest in Nationals history) has now been split into separate streaks of 10 and seven games, the latter of which will be on the line tonight against the Diamondbacks.

Not that Morse was crestfallen upon receiving the news.

Michael Morse, Team First, stats are secondary = FIRST PLACE NATS. PHOOLIES & COLBERT.. Stats first, team somewhere on the bottom of the list = Last Place

Come on. There needs to be some time limit to a change; like 48 hours or something. To reach that far back is bush league.

$144 Million and he wants to lower his ERA off Rollins and Morse??????? What a jerk.

You would think the Phillies would have a lot more important things to worry about as their season crumbles around them.

Maybe someone should have told Cole Hamels that appealing an inconsequential stat isn't very "old school". Talk about "fake tough"....

Once the trade deadline is past, this is all that's left to worry about for the GM of an expensive and sinking club.

That's ridiculous. They showed the "hit" on the pre-game show and I don't see how they over-rule it.

Davey is a riot. This means nothing unless Morse extends his streak for 38 more games then I'd be pissed a little ;-)

I guess if you're not practicing and winning games, you have the time to nitpick over petty crap like this

Just one more thing to tuck away and bring out when we next face Colbert. Put a ten-spot on him and in the post game, casually mention the stolen hit from Morse.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

I'm guessing Hamel's agent had a hand in this, probably incentive-related. Otherwise, a really egotistical move on his part.

O hope it gets to the point where Morse is near Joe D. That would make it controversal. Anything that management does that is controversal is OK with me.

No way that was a hit. I remember arguing about that with Big Cat when it happened.

Joe Torre could have never fielded that, not could his buddy Derek Jeters, so why the E. Joe is hating on the Nats I am guessing.
