US Presswire photo Ryan Zimmerman is hitting .332 with 19 homers and 62 RBI over his last 75 games. |
Nearly three months later, the time finally came.
Zimmerman received a shot prior to today's doubleheader against the Dodgers, a step taken after a recent recurrence of discomfort in the shoulder, and one designed to allow him to finish the season before he's likely to require arthroscopic surgery.
The Nationals said the discomfort Zimmerman has been feeling isn't as severe as it was in June, when he got his last shot prior to the club's series finale in Baltimore.

A shame Morse, Espi and especially Zim didn't speak up days before the Atlanta series.
GoSM, I'm guessing they put it off as long as possible so there would be a greater chance that Zimm would benefit from the treatment as much as possible during October.
I think everyone should get one. Maybe give away cortisone shot bobbleheads as they are as integral to our winning as anything else.
Bowdenball, the first shot lasted 3 months and the pain wasn't as bad this time. A littler more than a month to go to finish business.
I could stand another month and a half of .332!
So good to see FP and Bob Carp again. Nothing like our local guys.
Zim is in a different category than Espi. Espi hadn't let people know he was hurting until very recently. Zim had had the shot back in June so everyone knew he had a shoulder issue. Probably Davey or someone on the training staff is asking him every day, "so how's that shoulder doing Zim?" At a certain point, it's up to him to say when it's bothering him enough to get another shot. He has no incentive to conceal anything, so I don't think it's a matter of "speaking up," but more judging when the shot is needed. And I don't think we have any way of knowing how he felt before the ATL series. Saying that he needed it before that series based on the fact that he played badly is just hindsight.
Hmmmmm......thought they said there was nothing damaged in the shoulder. Hence the shot. Now a second shot and surgery after season.
Scoping the shoulder could just be cleanup, not repair.
