Pudge activated, Burke DFA'd

The Nationals have activated Ivan Rodriguez off the 15-day DL, and the veteran catcher will be behind the plate tonight for Stephen Strasburg's debut.

Fellow catcher Jamie Burke was designated for assignment to make room for Rodriguez on the roster.

Rodriguez, who missed 15 days with a lower back strain, went 0-for-3 in his one rehab assignment game last night at Class A Potomac.

Oh well. My fruitless hope of Nieves being DFA'd instead has been dashed, but at least Pudge is calling the game tonight, which means we'll see something other than off-speed and away!

Mark, so Burke has to clear waivers now or they lose him?

My officemate tells me that Pudge caught Nolan Ryan's last pitch. If true, wouldn't that be cool!

Pudge also caught Dontrelle Willis & Justin Verlander the years they won the ROY.
