Burke added, Maldonado to DL

The Nationals just turned on the catching carousel. In one fell swoop, they made the following roster moves...

-- Purchased the contract of Jamie Burke from Class AAA Syracuse.

-- Placed Carlos Maldonado on the 15-day DL with a left thumb fracture, retroactive to Friday.

-- Unconditionally released Chris Coste.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for Maldonado. He would have been bound for Syracuse when Pudge came back. Fracturing a thumb sounds like a good way to continue drawing the major league paycheck for the rest of the season.

Does anyone know if "Sweet Caroline" has been placed on the DL at Nats Stadium? It seems like it was a regular thing for the first month or so of the season, but I haven't heard it in a while Sure, they sing it in Fenway, but my wife and I miss seeing Coach up on top of the Nats' dugout dancing and the whole stadium singing along. Is it that wrong to have a little fun, even if its the same kind of fun that Red Sox fans have? Did it get shut down only because a few internet grumps (many of whom don't even attend games) were afraid it wasn't original?

Who cares?

"Sweet Caroline" can stay packed in mothballs for all this Nats fan cares. They're mostly playing "Build Me Up, Buttercup" when the relievers enter in mid-inning. (For that matter, is that something else we've "borrowed" from another MLB team?)

SO....Wil Nieves will be catching Strasburg? Has he ever caught him, I seem to recall Pudge and Devin Ivany working with him almost exclusively during the spring!????

As for Sweet Caroline, I NEVER want to see COACH dancing to Sweet Caroline EVER AGAIN!!! It was funny the first time but after that it was way too bush league, maybe it would work in Potomac and second we stole the song from the Red Sux which makes it even worse. As for Buttercup, it is a horrible song, how about something that pumps the crowd up instead of mellowing us out!!! More ROCK less talk!

Mark - Doesn't Pudge come off the DL tomorrow?

On Coach, I liked it although I think a different song would be better. When I think of Minor League antics, I think more slapstick. This got the fans involved at a good time in the game. Anyone have a song suggestion for Coach?

Looking around the Nats Blogosphere, looks like this one has the answers on Pudge:

How about "Sweet Home Chicago"?
"New York, New York"?
Maybe we could get a monkey and dress it up in a cute little uniform.

Seriously, if we're going to go with Used Goods, the Curly (W) Shuffle would work, I tellya.

I dunno. We sing the Star Spangled Banner. We sing God Bless America. We sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game. They should have Mitch Miller throw out the first pitch (how's *that* for old guy throwbacks?)
Maybe they could use "I Thought About the Game" from Damned Yankees. At least there's a Nats tie-in.

Soitenly! Nyuk! Nyuk!

On the Mitch Miller front, I seem to recall seeing a "follow the bouncing ball" effect on the scoreboard at one point. For Take Me Out to the Ball Game, maybe?
