PHILADELPHIA -- Garrett Mock has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a neck injury that cropped up after the right-hander was optioned to Class AAA Syracuse over the weekend, thus negating his demotion.
Mock, who had remained with the Nationals in order to throw a regular bullpen session Monday in Philadelphia, felt a "twinge" in his right shoulder, general manager Mike Rizzo said, and had to cut the session short. Doctors in Washington then discovered a problem with a cervical disc in his neck, putting pressure on a nerve that went into his shoulder.
"It's a disc thing that put pressure on a nerve," Rizzo said. "He thought it was his shoulder, but it was actually a circulatory thing from his neck."
Mock had never mentioned any previous shoulder or neck issues prior to his demotion.
"He never complained about it before," Rizzo said, "but it came to a head during his bullpen."
The right-hander, who lasted only 3 1/3 innings and threw 84 pitches against the Mets Friday night, will remain on the major-leaue roster (and receive a major-league salary) while he's on the DL.

Smart move - fake an injury and still get a major league pay check. Not bad for the Nats either, as the save a minor league option because of the DL.
Or not as smart a move - pitch through injury, which gets worse and worse and causes your performance to decline. Then, only bring it up once you've been demoted.
I still think his problems are a little farther up his neck.
Mock injured his neck by craning it around to watch the home runs he served up fly out of the park.
Mock's only dislocation is somewhere in his head.
