Beltway Baseball: Strasburg will be alright

In this episode of Beltway Baseball, Mark and I talked about Stephen Strasburg's up-and-down first month, when Davey will pick a catcher, and how the Nats compare with the Braves right now.

Stay tuned later today for clips from The Baseball Show and our weekly MLB power rankings. Also, I talked to Ross Detwiler yesterday about the Capitals as they get set for Game 5, so look out for that.

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

It's been a while since we've done this, but rest assured we haven't forgotten about you guys. So later this afternoon, Chase Hughes and I will be taping some new Beltway Baseball segments, and one of them will include reader questions.

If you've got something you'd like to ask us, submit your questions here and then check back later in the week when we post the video.

Beltway Baseball: Who has impressed?

In Part 2 of our spring training edition of Beltway Baseball, Chase Hughes and I discuss a couple of first-round draft picks who have really stood out through the first few weeks of camp: Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon. We also talk about the calming influence Davey Johnson has on the Nats' clubhouse and what he said to his players last summer during their longest losing streak of the year. Make sure to check back tomorrow morning for our reader Q&A.

Beltway Baseball: On Zim and the bullpen

For our first installment of Beltway Baseball this season, Chase Hughes and I discussed the overall quiet nature of Nats camp so far, Ryan Zimmerman's return from shoulder surgery and the wide-open battle for the final spot in the Opening Day bullpen. We'll post another segment tomorrow morning with more impressions from the first half of spring training and then will post our reader Q&A on Friday morning. Enjoy!

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

We've almost reached the halfway point of the longest spring training on record, so this seems like a good time to take a look at what has happened so far in Nats camp and what is yet to come before the team heads north for Opening Day. Chase Hughes and I will address a bunch of topics this afternoon when we tape several segments for our online Beltway Baseball show.

And, as always, one of those segments will feature your questions on the Nats and our (usually) educated answers. If you've got something you'd like to ask, please submit it in the comments section below. We'll pick the best ones to use in the show, which will be posted on the site in several segments over the next few days.

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

It's been a quiet couple of weeks for the Nationals since the Winter Meetings wrapped up. There's still no resolution to negotiations with Adam LaRoche. There's still no new left-handed reliever to replace Sean Burnett.

But the lack of recent news doesn't mean there still isn't plenty to discuss about the Nationals. So CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and I will be tackling a variety of subjects later today when we tape our latest edition of Beltway Baseball.

As always, we'll answer some of your questions. Submit them here and we'll pick the best ones to include on the show, which will be posted first thing tomorrow morning.

Beltway Baseball -- 11/8/12

There was plenty to talk about during our first offseason edition of Beltway Baseball, and Chase Hughes and I tried to touch on just about every important subject facing the Nationals as the Hot Stove League gets underway.

Among the topics of discussion: Adam LaRoche and the domino effect his situation has on so many others, the need (or lack of need) for another outfielder and the various possibilities for a No. 5 starter. We also brought up what I think is perhaps the most fascinating storyline of the offseason: Should the Nats "go for broke" in an attempt to win the World Series in 2013, but in the process potentially hamstring themselves down the road?

And, of course, we answered your questions on a variety of subjects. Hope you enjoy the show!

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

The World Series is over. The 2012 election is over. The Hot Stove League has begun.

So it's time to turn our attention to the offseason plan for the Nationals and look at what steps they could (and should) take to not only repeat as NL East champions in 2013 but to make a deeper run through the postseason all the way through the Fall Classic.

CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and I will be touching on a number of subjects this afternoon when we tape our first offseason edition of Beltway Baseball. But we also want to know what subjects you want addressed.

Submit your questions in the comments section, and we'll pick the best ones to answer on-air. The full show will be posted here tomorrow morning, so be sure to check back and watch it in its entirety.

Beltway Baseball: Postseason preview

The regular season has concluded, the postseason is about to begin, and we've got so much to talk about that this edition of Beltway Baseball could probably stand alone as a 30-minute TV show if they added commercial breaks.

Among the topics I discussed with CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and the Washington Times' Amanda Comak were what kind of postseason atmosphere we can expect in D.C., what kind of threats the Braves or Cardinals would pose as a first-round opponent, what kind of state the Nationals' offense and pitching staff is in entering the playoffs and what kind of chances the Nats have at winning some postseason awards.

Enjoy the show!

Beltway Baseball: Clinching Edition

A small disclaimer: We taped this episode of Beltway Baseball yesterday afternoon, before the Nationals had officially clinched a playoff berth. But with their magic number at that point down to 1, we felt fairly comfortable talking about this team's various postseason scenarios.

CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and I also addressed some other topics, including Bryce Harper's NL Rookie of the Year chances and the potential ninth-inning dilemma facing Davey Johnson.

Then Amanda Comak of the Washington Times joined me to talk about what, if anything, can be done to correct the recent spate of umpiring mistakes that have plagued the Nationals, the power of cortisone for Ryan Zimmerman and Danny Espinosa and the decision to start Chien-Ming Wang on Sunday.

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

A two-day offensive explosion seen only twice before in baseball history. A rookie slugger doing things only two other 19-year-olds have ever done. A dominant young ace about to make his final home start of the season. And a ballclub on pace for 100 wins and the city's first postseason berth in 79 years.

Suffice it to say, there's plenty to talk about the Nationals right now. Chase Hughes and I will be doing just that this afternoon when we tape our latest edition on Beltway Baseball. The episode will be posted tomorrow morning, but before then we need your help as always.

Submit your questions about the Nats in the comments section, then tune in tomorrow to see if we selected yours...

Beltway Baseball - 8/31/12

Was the Nationals' recent losing streak cause for concern or just a small bump in the road? Is Bryce Harper finally learning how to control his emotions on the field? Has Drew Storen made an important leap back to peak form just in time for the stretch run?

Chase Hughes of CSNwashington.com and Amanda Comak of the Washington Times joined me to discuss all those issues and more on our latest edition of Beltway Baseball. And as always, we answered your questions on the Nationals.

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

They snapped a five-game losing streak last night in Miami, thanks to Bryce Harper's two home runs, Ross Detwiler's strong start and Drew Storen's impressive escape act in the bottom of the eighth. Now the Nationals return to South Capitol Street for an 11-game homestand, beginning tonight against the contending Cardinals.

CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes, the Washington Times' Amanda Comak and I will have plenty to discuss when we tape our latest episode of Beltway Baseball. But we also need your questions for consideration. Submit them here in the comments section and we'll pick the best ones to answer on the show (the final version of which will be posted tomorrow morning).

Beltway Baseball - 8/20/12

Why has the reaction to the Stephen Strasburg shutdown been different in Washington than it's been elsewhere in the country? Why has Jayson Werth been so effective as the Nationals' leadoff hitter? Which National League contenders should the Nats be most concerned about?

Chase Hughes and I tackled all those topics and answered your questions on the latest episode of Beltway Baseball. Enjoy the show!

Beltway Baseball - 8/2/12

Did Mike Rizzo make the right decision standing pat at the trade deadline? How might the deals made by other NL contenders affect the Nationals down the stretch? What's up with Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper's recent struggles?

CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes, the Washington Times' Amanda Comak and I discussed all that and more during our latest episode of Beltway Baseball. We also answered your questions on several subjects.

Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

July has transitioned into August, and that means it's time both to look back at the trade deadline and look ahead to a pennant race that is about to turn an already-blazing D.C. summer even hotter.

CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and the Washington Times' Amanda Comak will join me this afternoon for a taping of the latest episode of Beltway Baseball. And as always, we'll take your queries on the Nats.

Beltway Baseball - 7/19/12

Can Ian Desmond make it through the season with his strained oblique? Can Jayson Werth make it back from his broken wrist? What, if anything, might the Nationals be looking for at the trade deadline?

We touched on all those subjects and more yesterday when CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and the Washington Times' Amanda Comak joined me for our latest edition of Beltway Baseball. We also answered the best of the questions you submitted here, including one directed at Chase.
