Drew Storen and Tyler Clippard could have found themselves in an awkward position this spring, their roles diminished after the Nationals' surprising addition of veteran closer Rafael Soriano. But as you'll see in this TV segment for Comcast SportsNet, both relievers have accepted the switch and are looking forward to being part of perhaps the deepest bullpen in baseball.

Everyone talks about Clip in the 7th and Drew in the 8th, but with davey's A/B concept it seems like these two guys would be the A/B 8th inning guys, and Matheus/Stammen would be the 7th inning guys. That still sounds pretty dominant to me, and would also hopefully prevent burnout. What a luxury!
I think Stammen said it well in that interview "They have good heads on their shoulders" and like Mark said it shortens the game.
This is the strategy the Barves have employed. Starters need to go all out for 6 innings and anything past that is betting house money and then you turn it over to the bullpen to shut it down.
I like this these guys are acting like a team. I am sure Storen know he will get to close some games. He will be a closer again one day. A dominant bullpen can make this team special.
Javier Vazquez isn't going to the Nats or anywhere in 2013 according to this article:

That is fantastic news! It's also a sign of respect! I'm going to some Cactus League games and will go to see him!
Hurray for the Chief. That is good news.
I'm really proud of Clip and Store. They are good team players. I think they just needed a little time to get over their disappointment and now will really relish their roles in a great bullpen.
Go, Chief, go!
And seconding Sonny on Clippard and Storen.
SonnyG10,
The tickets arrived last night. Thanks again.
You are a gentleman and a scholar.
As to the discussion on the previous post about Harper; while he may not be the best player in baseball yet there is no question that if there was an open draft where you can pick anyone to build a team every GM would take Bryce 1st or 2nd (Trout being the other top 2 selection).
I think Stanton goes 3rd.
