A case of shoulder soreness is restricting LaRoche to designated hitter duties for now, though the 31-year-old insists he'd be able to play if the calendar showed early April instead of early March.
"No question," he said. "Without a doubt. I wouldn't hesitate. But I don't want to stupidly turn it into something that it didn't have to."
LaRoche isn't exactly sure what precipitated the discomfort. He said he began feeling it shortly before arriving in Viera.
"I can't pinpoint anything," he said. "I've never had an arm injury in my career, and I really don't want to call it an injury. It's just a little sore."
LaRoche did say his condition has improved the last few days and doctors haven't felt any need to have him undergo an MRI or other tests.
"I don't think it's that serious," he said.

I will read your posts as long as my eyes hold out. Which with this new design will not be nearly as long as with the old.
I'm not much of a change guy, but I guess all things must....The pic of MZ is not what I would call an improvement.
I agree with Wood, it is hard on the eyes...

I see my boy Marrero was 2 for 2 and had a fine defensive game at first. I don't know who started all this talk about him being horrible in the field. I saw him in Potomac a couple years ago and he was fine. This kid can hit
Harper's hit was a double the other way. Now hitting .250. They said he had a guy gunned at home but Norris dropped the ball. Im tellin ya, he's gonna burn spring training up!

Can I ask a stupid question? Why is their a DH in a game between to National League teams? Seems to me pitchers will most likely be lifted for pinch hitters with their limited innings and if not, it a good time to work on bunting. Is the call (on DH use) one that the home team makes? It seems very short sighted to me.
P.S. The darker font on the new design is a little better than this morning.

I don't know ... albeit a left-handed bat is good. But Marerro went 2 for 2 today and Morse again is very, very hot. He looks like a sure bet to hit .300, add Werth and Zimmerman in front of him hitting the same ... no worries.
Again, management seems particularly (even acutely aware) concerned that they lack potent left-handed bats in the lineup outside of LaRoche who is a solid .260+ hitter. Now Corey Brown goes down with an ankle. He more than Bernadina represents a very, very potent left-handed bat ... if they decide to put Morgan on bench as a Willy Harris utility guy then what?
I guess its why, in addition to Marerro, you see "older" lefties Matt Stairs, slugger Kevin Barker, and former top prospect Michael Aubrey in camp at the first base position.
I do hope that Morse starts and isn't traded but if he is part of a deal to get the elusive top-of-the-rotation ace? Its extremely doubtful and you'd almost have to think Cardinals for that ... still ...
Re: design
One thing I don't like about this (or CSN for that matter) is the lack of color. In the "old" version, I liked the warm red bar up top, and the right hand column being blue. The new one doesn't have to be the same way . . . but almost all black and white seems quite uninteresting

Thanks for the piece on LaRoache, I was wondering if he showed up to FL. Let's hope this is not spin and he really will be ok.

I'm not sure exactly why they don't have the pitchers hit, but I would imagine it's for the same reason that they don't have pitchers hit in the lower levels of the minors. Teams want to maximize at bats to evaluate their prospects. Monday's game was a case in point. No DH means no opportunity to evaluate Stairs and Harper. I don't need to see at bats from relievers like Balester, Storen, and others who are unlikely to bat in games.
Basically it's an artificial situation where you want to pitch relievers early without having them bat and give the most position players a chance to bat.
Be curious if anyone has anything else to add on this one.
And no question is a stupid question IMHO.
