Nats (ss) vs. Mets (ss) - 3/10/11

File photo by Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER
Rain delayed the start of today's game against the Mets.
It looks like they're finally ready to play down in Viera, where heavy rain this morning delayed the start of this game an hour. That could create a bit of a dilemma for members of the coaching staff planning to make it to Kissimmee for tonight's 7:05 p.m. split-squad game against the Astros. (Actually, Bryce Harper is scheduled to appear in both games.)

Chad Gaudin gets the ball in Viera against the Mets, perhaps his last shot at making a case for the No. 5 starter's job. Tom Gorzelanny, the presumed front-runner for that job, makes his first start tonight against the Astros.

I really think we are wasting time on giving Gaudin chances to prove his worth as fifth starter. We should just go in with Tom as fifth. In case of injury, we have better replacements in Detwiler and Maya. Gaudin can be the long man out of the pen, that's about it.

Meanwhile, nats lead 3-0.

...And Gaudin had a very solid 5 innings 5IPs/zero runs/ 4 hits/ 1 walk/ 6 K's!! Not a bad line from a fifth starter. I think the Nationals would be tickled to get that from their 5th guy. I hope Gorz can put up similar numbers tonight.

I somehow doubt Gaudin morphed into Don Drysdale over the winter. Looking at the Mets opening lineup, only two starters (Murphy, out of position at 2B, and Wright). Best guess is Gaudin will have a rematch w/ some of these guys when Syracuse meets Scranton.

Clippard almost blew the 5 run lead facing a few MLB quality guys.

We should probably demote Clippard because he had one bad outing.
