Another strong start for Zimmermann

Jordan Zimmermann turned in another impressive showing in his second rehab start earlier today.

Starting once again for Class A Potomac, Zimmermann tossed three scoreless innings at Frederick, allowing one hit with five strikeouts and no walks. He threw 45 pitches, 30 for strikes, in the next step in the right-hander's recovery from major elbow surgery.

Zimmermann, who had Tommy John surgery last August, has yet to surrender a run in five rehab innings with Potomac. He also hasn't walked a batter, though he did hit one during today's game.

The Nationals haven't announced plans yet for Zimmermann's next outing, though he'll be scheduled to pitch four innings whenever and wherever the start takes place. If he continues to progress as hoped, the 24-year-old figures to come off the 60-day disabled list and join the Nats' rotation sometime in August.

This is the type of news the Nats need. A 2011 rotation of #1 Strasburg #2 J. Zimmermann
#3 TBD #4 TBD #5 TBD

With #1 and #2 I think they can win 30 games combined in 2011.

Yeah I agree with Andrew. Strasburg and Zimmermann will likely be the top of next year's rotation (and perhaps even beginning when J. Zimm returns in August).

CWJ, sad part is I can't think of who gets the 3 to 5 spot.

JD Martin, Detwiler, Wang, Marquis, Stammen, Lannan, Thompson, Chico are all under team control.

Then do you bring back Livo for another 1 year deal or even sign a top Free Agent pitcher.

So many pitchers for so few coveted spots.
