The bench coach will remain Randy Knorr, Steve McCatty will stay on as pitching coach, Jim Lett will coach the bullpen, and Rick Eckstein will be back once again as hitting coach.
Tarasco joins the Nationals at the major league level after seven seasons in various roles in the organization. He spent the last two seasons as the outfield and baserunning coordinator after serving three years as hitting coach of the Hagerstown Suns. Previous to his time in Single-A, Tarasco was the hitting coach for two seasons for Vermont of the rookie-level New York-Penn League.
Tarasco played under Davey Johnson for the Baltimore Orioles in 1996 and 1997 and was the right fielder on Derek Jeter’s controversial home run in the 1996 ALCS. He was under the ball at the warning track when Yankees fan Jeffrey Maier reached over and interfered to make the catch.
Tarasco played eight seasons in the majors with stops in Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York with both the Yankees and Mets, and with the Montreal Expos.

Cousin of Rollins.
Apart from his relationship to Rollins, Tarasco has a reputation as a smart guy, good person, good coach. He taught Harper how to play the OF and taught Tyler Moore self-preservation in LF, which is noteworthy in itself.
I'm mildly surprised it wasn't Beasley. I don't believe the line of succession behind Johnson is nearly as clear as some people seem to think it is.
Good to have Tony T. in the Big House.
He was a big favourite in Montreal!
Obviously, like many minor league coaches, he's paid his dues!
Congrats Tony!!
I don't think the line of succession is clear at all. The only guy we do know who probably would have gotten the job is Bo Porter. But he is now in Houston.
Given how Davey treats Randy Knorr I don't think he's in line as many people seem to surmise.
They still have time to decide what to do. I'm sure they'll consider all possibilities.
Glad Tony is on board. He can continue to teach Bryce and work on Lombo/Tyler/Morse in the OF.
Well this is intereseting:

Davey Johnson said #Astros' Bo Porter called to ask if the #Nats would trade Tyler Moore to HOU. "Forget it, no chance."
If Tony T. is Rollins' cousin, he will have a direct line to correcting Rollins' understanding on which is the team to beat in the NL East.
Doc..
Tony T at the Thanksgiving Dinner "Hey Jimmy, Tick Tock!"
MicheleS I'm thinking that Bo will come after JFlo if and when the Nats release him.
Bo's probably interested in a few other current Nats too!

I hate to be accused of jumping on a Peric bandwagon but I'm starting to see Rendon as 2013's 400 PA play-anyywhere-he's needed guy.
Some guy (Bernie Pleshkov? Occasionally contributes on NatsProspects.com and is described as a former scout for Astros and Braves) writing on nationals.com says there are no issues w/ Rendon's ankles in AFL and he has the ability to transition to 2B or the OF.
______________________________
Get your bandwagon right. That was not Peric who suggested Rendon going into the Lombo role in fact Peric stated he couldn't see Rendon as a 2nd baseman due to his previous ankle injury.
Peric is on board with Rendon to 3rd and Zim to 1st.
Gross! Tony Tarasco is related to J-Roll. I hope Tony isn't close to him.
Glad Tony T. will be here full time, but the real news is Trent Jewett as 3B coach. I really liked Bo over there -- he was aggressive, energetic, always in the game, and very athletic when he needed to be. He wasn't always right (I seem to remember a particularly bad decision to send ALR on a short fly ball), but he seemed to have a really good sense of when to force the issue. Plus, he took no sh*t from the Cubs bench.
Anyone have a sense of Jewett's skills over there? A timid 3B coach can really slow a team down.

Not surprised at all. He knows the backups very well. Did you see what TyMo did in Game 1 of the Playoffs and some of his other clutch hits?
A diamond in the rough!
Doc agree, I think Bo will be looking for any help he can get. He was probably looking at Tyler for either 1B or DH. Not sure about the Catcher situation, for some reason, i thought they had a young kid ready for that spot.
Gonat.. I love Tyler - See Ball Hit Ball. I hope he continues to develop and they can find a spot for him. He definitely is the Big Harry Chested Right Handed Guy off the bench for Davey now.
I think Tyler Moore can be more than a pinch hitter or dh.
Swami, totally agree, just need to figure out where he will play everyday
And sadly, I think, no way Gio beats Dickey. He deserves to beat him, but everyone is in love with the whole knuckle ball story. That - and the guy's whole zen thing.
I don't know anything about Tony T, but Theo, what you said in your 4:33 pm post sounds good. I just don't know how Trent will be as 3rd base coach. Can he get down on the ground to indicate slide like Bo Porter did? If he did he might not be able to get back up. :)
Stras is going to win the Cy next year. Bank on it.
Anyone have a sense of Jewett's skills over there? A timid 3B coach can really slow a team down.
The reason Jewett was moved to 3B coach is because he has a lot of experience managing minor league teams. In the minors, the manager also coaches third.

Translation: The Astros don't have anybody that Rizzo wants. If there's someone on some other team that Rizzo really wants to get in trade, and the price is Tyler Moore, then Rizzo will pay the price.
Anyone know what time they announce the Cy Young tonight?
Pretty soon - doing the AL first. They are basically ignoring Gio, though.
I love when the beats get snarky:
Adam Kilgore@AdamKilgoreWP
About time Buehrle apologized. RT @joecapMARLINS Samson: I spoke to Mark Buehrle, He said he was sorry things didnt work out.
Jane, probably around 645 and swami is right, they are ignoring GIO
Absolutely not mentioning the fact that he is the only one of them that got to the post season.
Good for Amanda Repping GIO on MLB Network
Yeah- then they trotted out the Strassie factor........
Anyone surprised?
Nope not suprised. Everyone one loved RA. Mark voted in this. he had the follwoing
Dickey/Gio/Kershaw/Kimbrel/Cueto
This is HILARIOUS. Reply from Stanton to Bryce's tweet last night:
Giancarlo Stanton@Giancarlo818
@Bharper3407 Dang bro, If only my last name backwards wasn't NotNats!
Very funny tweet! Gio and Kershaw were really close. I guess it's one of those " honor to be nominated" things. Especially since a lot of people think he was our number two pitcher.
Swami, Next year, they will hold the show at Nats Park. Gio will be sitting in between Stras and JZ laughing about which of the 3 will win it.
Dang! I was really hoping Gio would get it.
So Eck is coming back.....hmmm
Big Cat.. when you have 3 silver sluggers on your team, you come back. Plus if you haven't heard. Eck is Davey's guy.
My problem with Eck is he isn't reaching Espinosa, but to be fair it might be possible no one can do that right now.
Stras and Gio and JZim and Det - oh, my!! ( and the mystery date pitcher number five, of course - John Lannan?)
Stanton's re-tweet to Harps---an all-time baseball tweet!!!!
That's totally funnnnnnnnnny!!
Thanks MicheleS!
new post

You know Davey spilled the beens on this move on the Sports Fix (980am) yesterday afternoon. He seemed like it should have been "approved" a month a ago...
