Zim's rehab, Harper's early exit

Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper hit back-to-back in Hagerstown's lineup Sunday, a first glimpse at what could become a daily occurrence in Washington at some point. Unfortunately, a crowd of 4,000 didn't get to see much of the pairing.

Harper had to depart after taking a fastball off his lower right leg in the bottom of the first inning, though the injury doesn't appear to be anything serious. Zimmerman, meanwhile, went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and a walk in his first rehab game since undergoing surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle.

Here's the full video report from Comcast SportsNet, with footage of both Zimmerman and Harper.

Myson and I went up to see Zimm and Harper, and it was a thrill to see the line up posted on the chalk board next to the concession stand: batting thrird, number eleven, Ryan Zimmerman, third base;batting fourth, number thirty-four, Bryce Harper, right field. But in the bottom of the first, Zimmerman walks, and Harper gets plunked in the knee and comes out of the game. The Suns proceed to score four runs with two outs. A.J. Cole looked terrific for the first four innings. They have this guy Kelso who going to find a way to play in the big leagues.

All in all, it's worth the trip to Hagerstown to see Zimm and Harper in the next couple of weeks. Parking is free, beer is cheap, they serve you right in the stands.

In July, I guess the place to be is Harrisburg where Harper may be playing next. That may be where Stras starts his rehab assignment. Imagine, Harper, Strasburg, Oliver Perez, and Ching Ming Wang, derric Norris, and Peacock.

Thanks for the report, DCJohn. I'd guess that Zimm would be heading to the P-Nats if he's rehabbing beyond a few days more, as it looks like they'll be starting a homestand tommorrow and Hagerstown will be finishing one.

Thanks, too, to Mark for this and the draft post. You must have been up early in SFO, or maybe you arrived in the wee hours. Of course, I could be confused about the time delta. I've been known to awaken my hubby from a sound sleep by miscalculating and making a nighttime call to him during one of my visits to family in California. Oops.

Then again, maybe you just set these to autopost at 6 a.m. our time. Never mind...

Waitaminute, this one was at 1:14 AM our time. It was the other one that was at 6 AM our time. Never mind redux...

Seeing Zim in the High School style batting helmet even makes him look younger.

Correction to my post: The P-Nats homestand starts tonight. What day is it again?

Addendum: P-Nats site now says that Zimm will be there on rehab assignment tonight (7:05 start time).

Wow, he got promoted already! Surprised they wouldn't leave him with BHarper for 2 more days or is BHarper going with Zim? LOL

There’s been suggestions an injury is at least partly to blame for Slaten’s abysmal performance, and Stammen’s been doing decently at Syracuse. However, it leaves Burnett as the only lefty in the ‘pen. (Of course, one could argue that there was only one lefthand pitcher in the pen before Slaton was DL’ed…)There’s been suggestions an injury is at least partly to blame for Slaten’s abysmal performance, and Stammen’s been doing decently at Syracuse.
