PADRES UPDATE
Owners of the majors' worst lineup this season, the Padres hope one major promotion tonight will help get things going in the right direction. Anthony Rizzo, the organization's top prospect, will be called up from Class AAA Tucson and make his big-league debut tonight against the Nationals.
Rizzo (no relation to Nats GM Mike Rizzo) was the key player acquired from the Red Sox in the Adrian Gonzalez trade, and he quickly lived up to the reputation at Tucson. The 21-year-old was hitting .365 with 16 homers, 63 RBI and a PCL-leading 1.159 OPS, and he'll immediately be inserted as San Diego's starting first baseman.
Even if Rizzo can translate his success to the big-league level, the Padres still need to start getting more production from other spots in their lineup. They've got the lowest on-base percentage (.300), slugging percentage (.333) and OPS (.633) in the majors.
Pitching, of course, remains San Diego's strength, especially out of the bullpen. The club's top five relievers all boast ERAs under 2.71, and closer Heath Bell is 17-for-18 in save situations (though he did take the loss yesterday against the Rockies).

Zim went 0-3 last night with a K and a BB in a lineup that had 12 hits. He also had a throwing error.
Maybe he does need a few more games in the Minors.
I believe Zim will be back next Tuesday against St. Louis.
GO nats win 3 out of 4 against the Padres.
Anthony Rizzo looks impressive, but according to MLB Network last night Rizzo wasn't considered the best prospect in the deal. Scary if their is another guy better than him too.
I guess this means Cora, Ankiel and Rodriguez are starting.
Hate to be a broken record - but Danny's Hand?
Rizzo has taken off as a hitter this season. And he's just 21. If I could compare him to the Nats' Tyler Moore, I would say that Rizzo has a greater handle of the strike zone. Moore has only seven walks all year. Just terrible plate discipline. Moore is hitting well and is on pace for another 30 home run season. But I have to guess that major league pitching will be Moore's undoing, if he rises so far.
Bob Geren was just fired.
A's Record - 27-36
Nat's Record - 27-35
Just gonna throw that out there.
You took the words right out of my mouth Grandstander. And Riggleman has the worst winning percentage as a manager as well. Where's the accountability?
Moore is hitting well and is on pace for another 30 home run season.
Moore is also not hitting .386 in AAA either. Wily Mo Pena is also tearing up AAA ...
Moore has a long way to go. He'll end up in Syracuse for at least a year.
Biggest difference between Bob Geren and Riggs is that Geren has had 4.5 years to try and improve, hasn't happened. Not to mention Bob Melvin ready to hop in and do the job.
Biggest difference between Bob Geren and Riggs is that Geren has had 4.5 years to try and improve,
Riggleman has had seven years to improve on a .441 to .444 winning percentage. Geren only 4 years. Around three years with the Nats plus a year or so as bench coach under Acta.
this is great:

after bryce's goofiness this week, the post blog has an ad on the page for a show called" the history of kisses."
great timing. maybe they'll add a scene with harper
I'll second KD.
The As were 81-81 last year, and with young pitching and hired bats, some pre-season projections gave them at least an outside shot of contending in a tight division.
Being 9 games under .500 is a huge disappointment for them; for the Nats, being 8 games under .500 is within a game or 2 or where the pre-season handicapping had them.
The Nats could go 100-62, and there would still be people complaining about the managing.
Notice the ERAs on those 4 Nats starters. All of them under 4.00.
Who would have thought?
I support Riggleman. I like Riggleman and I think he is doing a good job. Winning is the culmination of a process no matter how much people want it to be otherwise. We waited thirty years to get a team back. I can wait a little longer to get to the top of our division. I see progress.
Echoing the other Anon's question: Is Danny's hand alright?
This is the 7th year of the process. That is rather slow don;'t you think?
Danny Espinosa and Jayson Werth are both in the Nationals' lineup tonight against the Padres.
Thanks, Manassas. That's encouraging, as noted over on the NJ.
Anon 1:10 said (speaking of Jim Riggleman) "....Around three years with the Nats plus a year or so as bench coach under Acta."
You are an idiot and no not what you speak about. Go back and check the record will you please? Jim Riggleman joined the Nationals for the 2009 season as bench coach and was named as the interim manager at the all star break in July 2009. He has had only one full season (2010)as the field manager.
Please don't ever let the facts get in the way of your stupid comments.
