VIDEO: Predicting the NL and AL East

On Thursday night's The Baseball Show Mark, Rob Carlin, and Jim Duquette made their predictions for how the N.L. East will shake out. And because the show also covers the Orioles, they took a stab at the A.L. East as well. Check it out and let us know if you agree.

I brought this over from the last post. I want to add that I seriously doubt that anybody wins 100 games in the NL East this year. I think 95 wins takes the East crown.
I'm up early, getting excited about opening day. I'm also worried about all of the lofty predictions and expectations for this team. We've got a very good team that plays in a very tough division where we play each of those teams 18 times. None of them are going to roll over and concede any one of those games to us. We've also got a tough schedule outside of the division and every one of those teams will no longer be guilty of looking past the Nats. On the contrary, every one of them will want to knock this team off of its perch.I made predictions early last year that the Phillies were in trouble, the Nats would win the division by beating out the Braves in a dogfight, and that Davey Johnson would be manager of the year. This year, though I worry about all of the paper awards already being handed to us in the press, I have confidence that if there is anybody that can keep them from getting too cocky about it, it's Davey Johnson. I doubt seriously that we will run away with the division from right out of the gate. We'll struggle at times, the Legion of Doom will ruffle our feathers, but ultimately I think we will win the NL East after another exciting finish. NOW, LETS GO YOU NATIONALS! GYFNG!!

Unterpnatsmetrics

Unterpnatsmetrics is a Washington Nationals prediction measurement that combines several pseudo-quasi algorithms: wish, fear, doubt, desire, want to, bad luck, good luck, badness, goodness, fate, destiny, Providence, evil with quotients and factors: injuries, talent, team chemistry, management, stupidity, stubbornness, intelligence, dumbassness, stupidassness, assness, what were you thinking, wowness, aweshucksness, awesomeness, and genius; and assumption.

Factoring:

Assumption = MC Hammer Times Apple Pie Divided by Blind (Blind not Black) Eyed Pees (Pees not Peas) or 32.4 times a quotient of two equals 104.976 (52.488). (57.024)

All the others = The factors & algorithms group 28(2.0365714) Minus the number of the difference times one or 57.024 equals the maximum amount of games the Nationals will win in 2013; that is, 57.024 + 52.488 = 109.512 which is equal to how the head but not minus the heart measures it; where the heart (where the heart is the determining factor times the square divided by one) subtracts 10.512 is equal to one more game than last season (2012), or Barbara Feldon.

Last season my head said 96 games. My heart said 93. Since they won 98, therefore, Unterpnatsmetrics has an error ratio of +/- 7, which means the Nationals will win between 92 and 106 games. IE, for betting enthusiast the over and under is set at 99. I'm betting on 99...

How cool is it to see that counter in the upper right corner of the blog: 1 day till Opening Day!

Fun post and fun replies. I'm taking 99.

And may I say a word of congratulations and encouragement to Bo Porter, on his first opening day as a skipper. I hope they have fewer than 99 losses.

Look at that counter go down! I hope I sleep tonight!

JaneB, your comment the other day about gaining "baseball weight" has had me chuckling for days. I lived on ballpark crap last year and gained a ton. Lost a bunch of it, got a ways to go, and looking for healthier alternatives for this year.

Joe, that's why JaneB and I are doing NatsFitness. I gained 15 lbs last year on all the crap I was eating.

for those interested: for every run scored by both teams you have to do a pushup. If the Nats win you only do that total, if the Nats lose you do double, So for Friday's game you have to do 12 pushups (total Runs scored as 6*2=12). If you cannot do pushups (standard or Modified), squats, situps, crunches can be done as well.

A Nats Fan runs a twitter accout and sends out the # you have to do each time. @NatsFitnes

Unterp. LOVE IT.

I too have the head and the heart in two different places. Last year I had 86 (based on the head) - they beat that quite soundly. So this year I am going with my heart.

102 wins. Book it.

DVR Alerts: Tonight on MASN they are showing Game 1 of the NLDS. Tomorrow at 9 am they show Game 4. I plan on recording Game 4 and keeping it forever.

Any of you work the post Sunday crossword? What was the second diagonal from last week. I got "Up the Dowm . . " but I couldn't find the other one in the answers.

Great posts for the last few of Chases columns and thank you Chase for a seamless move as Mark gets some well deserved time with family. I agree with others that differences of opinion are what help drive this wonderful site but I still rail against those with just constant negative venom. If you notice, those posts have been absent since the Yankee game. I don't want to live in lala land and realize we will have down times and lose at least 60 games, but I also want to continue to enjoy this great game in this great city.

Someone added my name awhile back to some people I really enjoy reading and I thank you for that but honestly am just an old man who loves baseball and has no insights and just love responding on here.

Will be taking my step-daughter to game one as Kevin has to work and be a father. What section was the NI meetup? Has to be close to 308 I am guessing. She will have her cute little Phillies hat on so please be gentle. She graduated from St. Joe's and has not been able to come over from the dark side.

I dreamed last night that somehow I had missed the last inning of the Nats Yankees game and woke up to a win.

The fun part of the dream though was that we were tied going into the bottom of the 9th and Drew was closing (we must have been visitors or something. hey, it's a dream). But he pitched so well that not only did he hold them, he scored us 2 runs without us having to bat again and I woke up to a 7-5 win.

MicheleS said...

NatsNut, those are the best dreams

Hmmm it just possible Drew gets replaced by former fab fav of the women here Cole Kimball. He has options.

And where does Zim go? LaRoche would have to go down and right now I think Tyler Moore slides in there but you never know ...

Zim would have to go down with an injury and they do need Zim's bat.
