The Giants, though, have their own opportunity to seize control right back and take a commanding 3-1 series lead behind rookie left-hander Madison Bumgarner, who has pitched well so far during his first postseason. San Francisco is going with a different lineup tonight. Pat Burrell, who looked awful at the plate in Game 3, is out. Cody Ross moves to left field, with Nate Schierholtz taking over in right field. Aubrey Huff, meanwhile, will serve as DH tonight, leaving Travis Ishikawa at first base.
I'll try to share some comments between passing out candy and keeping an eye on the Steelers/Saints game. Should be a busy night. Enjoy the game and Happy Halloween!...

GIANTS9:23 p.m. -- Aubrey Huff certainly doesn't look uncomfortable serving as DH. Then again, this guy has plenty of DHing experience from his days with the Orioles and Rays, so I imagine this isn't much of a challenge for him. He absolutely crushed a two-run homer inside the right-field foul pole to put the Giants up 2-0 in the third.

9:48 p.m. -- Madison Bumgarner has been very good so far, but he's also been helped by some really nice defense. Freddy Sanchez has made a couple of spectacular plays already at second base. And Buster Posey just fired a fantastic throw to second on a stolen base attempt to end the top of the fourth. Impressive effort all around from San Francisco so far, leading to a 2-0 score.
10:15 p.m. -- Nice job by the Texas bullpen to keep this game close after Hunter didn't last long. Ogando was first up from the relief corps, but he just exited in the sixth with an injury. Enter Darren Oliver, who got the final out of the sixth to keep the lead at 2-0.
10:34 p.m. -- Big night for Andres Torres, capped by his RBI double just now to the base of the center-field wall. It just so happened Edgar Renteria was running on the pitch, so he was able to score easily all the way from first base. It's now 3-0 Giants, and with Bumgarner cruising and a strong bullpen right behind him if needed, things are looking good for San Francisco.
10:59 p.m. -- OK, who honestly thought Buster Posey's fly ball to center had any chance of going out just now? Liars. That looked like a routine fly ball off the bat. Instead, it just kept carrying. Now the Giants lead 4-0, providing Bumgarner some cushion if he returns to pitch the eighth.
11:14 p.m. -- This just in: Madison Bumgarner is good. Really good. How great do the Giants feel about a rotation moving forward of Lincecum, Cain and Bumgarner? Those three appear good enough to win the World Series right now. And they're all young and should be around for a long time to come.
11:31 p.m. -- That's it. Giants win 4-0, with Bumgarner going eight and Brian Wilson pitching the ninth. It's the first time since 1966 that a team has been shut out twice in the World Series. That year, the Orioles shut out the Dodgers three times in four games. With Lincecum going tomorrow night in a potential clincher, there's certainly a possibility of another goose egg for Texas. The baseball season could end tomorrow night. Don't miss it.

Had a day at the movies and saw a trailer for a movie where Owen Wilson plays a National! Looked like he was in the bull pen. It was fun to see, anyway.

OMG I really hope Giants win. I can't have anything remotely connected to "Georgie" win. Sorry about the political comment but that's what I truly about the Rangers at the moment.

But I am really liking Huff lately.
you mean as a replacement for Dunn? To be honest, I also liked his defense so far, especially the agility he has shown such as against Sanchez's couple of errant throws, the tag to Kinsler. Offense is a dip compared to Dunn but his numbers with RISP aren't so bad. Age is the only downside of Huff because he will be looking for a multi year deal coming off his career year I believe.
I'm of the flaming pinko political persuasion myself, but I'm not too crazy about the Bush-bashing. (At least not here, heh, heh.) HW was a fine amateur player in his days, and W is a true fan. If you want to hate the Rangers, there's always Bob Short to demonize.
I'll just stick to the umps, thank you.

that last strike call sure looked like the umpire was eager to leave the field. Not sure Hamilton went far in that third swing. Madison was definitely good tonight and made me look like a fool for not trusting him enough after game 3. Great overall job by Giants.

No, not at all. We graduated in 1965. Sandy Alderson was our back up second baseman. Married his senior year sweetheart (Linda) and who also graduated in '65. They are still happily married.

Yeah, the kid was looking good on the mound last night. Such poise, too. Would that the Nats will have such a good, young, homegrown rotation some day.
sec3, when I saw the kids scrambling after the ball on the green, I said to myself, nobody gets 86'd *there.* heh.
I'm not crazy about bashing, either, no matter which side of the aisle is involved. (I don't claim either party, myself; not that it should matter, particularly in this forum.) We've all sworn our allegiance to the Nats, eh? ;-)
As a scorekeeping nerd, I do think it's pretty cool that Barbara Bush keeps score, and evidently in pen. Looked like she was using the card in the program. (I don't tend to like the in-program cards, myself, but rather the customized variety.)
Last but not least, there were some awesome costumes last night, both at my front door and in the ballpark. Special props to the couple who'd made their own antlers out of cardboard. I always like the homemade costumes, and, as my husband noted, anyone can go out and buy a pair of antlers. :-D
Just the 3 for 5 on Saturday afternoon with his first homerun. He's now hitting .353 for his 4 games.
Two nice things about watching President George Bush throw out the firt pitch last night, 1) no White Sox cap on his head and 2) unlike some recent Presidential first pitches "W" doesn't throw like a girl. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Oh and I loved that Lyle Lovett rendition of the National Anthem!
This is why politics should be left out of sports blogs. Suffice it to say that, although I like their story (and the ginger ale celebration was a great touch), as of 8:00 pm Sunday I knew I was rooting for the Giants.
That said, when I was at RFK and then-VP Dick Cheney threw out the first pitch (rather poorly, too) unlike many in the crowd I did NOT boo him. As the saying goes in the military, you salute the rank, not the person. That's something that people on any side of the fence could learn from.
