Brad Lidge was roughed up a bit in his brief rehab appearance for Class A Potomac this evening, allowing three of four Frederick batters he faced to reach safely in the bottom of the first before being pulled upon reaching his predetermined pitch count.
The veteran reliever, out since late April following surgery to repair a sports hernia, struck out the first batter he faced, then issued a walk and two singles, allowing one run to score in the process. He threw a total of 22 pitches, only 10 of them strikes.
Lidge is hoping to come off the disabled list and rejoin the Nationals' bullpen next week while the club is in Toronto. He'll likely make another two or three rehab appearances, pitching on back-to-back days before he's activated.

Big mistake ... I'd make him go the whole 30 and then work out a trade ... for him since 'tis the season.
Choosing Lidge over either Stammen or Mattheus will be a monster mistake that will lead to more than a few heartbreaking losses.
Will Mark Appel fall to Nationals?
Mark Appel will not be there at 16. I doubt he makes it past 10.
Surprised that Pirates take him.
Deven Marrero SS from Arizona State is the rumor pick if he is still available.
Guess who his agent is?
Guess who is cousin is?
Name sounded "familial", sure hope he fields better than his cousin.
I am officially a baseball dork.. I am watching the Draft on MLB network and following on twitter. Trying to figure out the Boras Client list to see who we are going to pick!!! Lord, I can't wait for an actual game tomorrow!! ;-)
same here. all my chrome tabs have something to do with mlb draft.
Strange pick by the Mets, 2 other SS rated higher than Gavin Cecchini.
Maybe lower bonus frees up money for other rounds.
Michele,
The MLB draft website is horrible. They really need to rework it. Take a page from ESPN/NFL on how to setup the info all on one page.
holy smokes. draftee does a back flip.
Three guys mentioned as possible Nats picks are still on the board: Marcus Stroman, the Duke pitcher; Marrero, the shortstop; and Wacha, the Texas A&M pitcher.
I would expect it the other way around. It will be interesting what Appel signs for.
I don't know how good Deven Marrero is, I do know that he is a Boras client. Could teams not want to pay a premium for him?
I would spend my available cash on the top 6 picks, premium players are usually the way to go. Teams with extra picks get extra cash sort of, that's the way I would play it.
is lucas g a boras agent?
anyways, nats might draft him I think.
Drew Stroman may be the closest to the big leagues but he is only 5'9" so he does not fit the Rizzo mold. Wacha 6'6" 200 fits the bill.
Nats on the CLOCK!!!!
I like the pick.
Oops, still on the clock. I don't know any of these guys so I like whoever it is.
Stroman was selected by nats before.
Another RHP.. And another GIO!!!
hah you heard it here first!
Wow pick an injured guy didn't see that happening
SCNatsFan, I guess chances of TJS are less with injury out of the way now.
Peter Gammons endorsed this pick.. So i am good with that!
True. Do the surgery and rehab him, not a death sentence anymore. Good call above by you.
If there is a player with an injury...Rizzo will find him!!! Really hate this pick. Best case scenario we will see him in 2017. Not going to help them any time soon. Paging Dr. Andrews!!! Just go ahead and get the Tommy John tomorrow.
Well, I'm glad it's a big, hard-throwing pitcher. Maybe this eases the sting of dealing Cole.
'nother Boras client, isn't he?
Lucas Giolito, high school RHP with a bad elbow. They don't listen to me do they? Don't like drafting injured players but then what do I know.
Interesting pick, high upside, should be able to sign him for slot and have money for their second pick.
I think the Pirates will have to give Appel over slot and make a filler pick with their next pick.
The new draft rules will be played with by some teams and it will interesting to see how much this system saves baseball.
This was on another site, hope I'm not breaking any rules.
Giolito was projected as a top five pick -- and potential No. 1 overall -- until his throwing elbow came up lame early in his season. He hit triple digits on the gun prior to being shut down and sits 93-97. His curveball shows two-plane break in the mid-80s. His changeup is a work-in-progress. Despite his size, the right-hander uses his length well in his delivery, which bodes well for his long-term health.
Giolito, who has an ace-level ceiling and could cover 230 innings per season. Clearly, there are no concerns about the medicals, despite Giolito not throwing off a mound in several weeks. Great upside pick here.
Theo... Per Mark.. Giolito is CAA (same as RZ,Storen, Lannan)
