Hairston to DL, Ankiel returns

The Nationals have placed utilityman Jerry Hairston on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right wrist and activated outfielder Rick Ankiel off the DL to take his roster spot.

Hairston was injured Wednesday evening in Anaheim when he was struck in the wrist by a Dan Haren fastball. Though X-rays revealed the small fracture, he initially expressed hope he could play through it.

The Nationals decided otherwise and placed the 35-year-old on the DL. He's expected to miss anywhere from two-to-four weeks.

Ankiel returns after a two-week stint on the DL with a sprained wrist. He appeared in two rehab games with Class AAA Syracuse, going 1-for-7 with a double, a walk and two strikeouts.

The veteran hit .204 with one homer and nine RBI in 46 games, starting 38 of them in center field. Roger Bernadina has since taken over as the everyday center fielder and figures to continue getting the bulk of the playing time there.

Hoping Gorzo gets up against his former team! We have to start hitting sometime soon, right?

Ankiel must have illicit photos of Rizzo.... perhaps in a compromosing position with Stairs.

Fudge. Wrong thread. Feel better, Jerry. Go get 'em, Rick!

Sec314@3:38pm, that is the funniest thing I read in weeks. Perfect way to start a weekend.

I don't tend to find that meme (compromising photos of whomever) particularly amusing, but that's just me.

It'll be Nix not Bernadina on the bench in this go round. Given Nix's injury status. Davey might not like losing his #4 hitter especially after watching a wasted gem by JZimmnn. Putting Ankiel in the lineup probably ensures a repeat performance.

I want to hear the story about "Cheeseburger" the reliever?

Kigore tweets: If there was any question, Davey is sticking with Roger Bernadina in center, using Ankiel as a fourth outfielder

1a, I was just fixin' to call for a moratorium (UH-gain) on that ... but if it's making someone happy, I guess I can scroll past it.

Even if it is as tired as a chicken.

Ankiel: fourth OFer and late-game defensive replacement in LF when needed.
Stairs: a good man with a solid career, but one which, alas, is over.

Maybe it was a SNL/Olympia Grill thing? ...cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger...

Mark, I thought Ankiel wason the DL with a strained oblique? Wasn't the sprained wrist an injury from May (his other DL stint)?

What was Rizzo thinking? Werth is worthless...not worth $126 million and Riggleman was doing a good job and he was stringing him along! I hsve always supported the Nats, but today, I shopped instead of watching the game!
