Big-league undergrad

After spending the fall at Stanford, Drew Storen is back to baseball this spring.
VIERA, Fla. -- One evening in late October, Drew Storen wandered from his dorm room at Stanford University down to the dining hall on the ground floor, where a cafeteria-style dinner and a big-screen TV showing the NLCS awaited.

He sat down at a table where a couple of fellow students were already watching the game between the Phillies and Giants with some keen interest and joined in the conversation with them as the game progressed. At one point, with Shane Victorino at the plate in a key spot, Storen couldn't help but blurt out what he expected the next pitch to be. When Storen's prediction proved to be dead-on, his dinner-mates turned to the 23-year-old and gave him a quizzical look.

"How did you know that?" one asked. It took every ounce of Storen's will power not to retort by saying: "Uh, dude, I struck that guy out on the same pitch one month ago." Instead, he played coy and replied simply: "I just watch a lot of baseball."

Most ballplayers spend their offseasons lounging around their homes, physically and mentally recovering from the 162-game grind. Storen, as you can read in my piece for CSNwashington.com, spent his offseason as a full-time student at one of America's most-demanding universities.

Storen's a very impressive guy. He's the guy that kids should be looking up to as a role model.

Well I see that Storen expects the Nats to be in the playoffs at least 50% of the time for the next 11 years. College degree at 35 FANTASTIC goal!! It's never to late!!

With that kind of dedication, Drew projects as good at anything that he tackles---baseball or engineering.

from CSN story: So, Drew believes that 35 years old makes one "a creepy old guy".
He won't think so when he gets there. Ha!
I truly admire his attitude and character. He will be a success at whatever he does.

If there was a hot girl or two at the table he would have.

How clueless are the guys watching the game to not know who Drew is! Really?

Hmmm, let me know when he meets Donald Knuth and knows what TeX is. Otherwise, yawnnnnnnnnnnnn ....

Like him as an athlete and he has great 'rents.

You have to love a lot about how Rizzo has undone the years of Lerner/Jimbo damage. Lost of good talent and character.....None of that Matters if they do not win and win now. This is the year, First Spring Training Game through end of the season. Win and Win more that you lose. Play smart and play like your a team and you care about your team.....On big problem....Morgan...he has to go right now. Just do it.....he is not ever going to play a team game or put winning above his own need for attention and fame.

This is the last launch for Discovery. In late April there will be a last launch for Endeavor and in June the last launch for Atlantis will occur.

Enjoy.

Mark,
He might be listed at 6'2, but there's no way he's that. I've stood up next to him, I think he's 5'8, maybe he's 5'10.

So Storen is paying for school himself? The Nationals aren't picking up the tab like they do for many kids they draft?
