I'd love to still have that guy coming off our bench. Still remember the monster home run he hit against the Yankees during that memorable Father's Day series a couple of years ago.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3442809928829881676.post-61706799898856314422010-07-02T13:14:01.626-04:002010-07-02T13:14:01.626-04:00Hey, isn't Nook a Bear too?Hey, isn't Nook a Bear too?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3442809928829881676.post-29068218358237889212010-07-02T12:09:17.668-04:002010-07-02T12:09:17.668-04:00Hey Mark (et al)-

I don't remember the Nats ever signing anyone from there--and we've done some dumpster diving.

But I guess if John Halama can make it back out with the As, it's not a complete graveyard.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3442809928829881676.post-1382173260237630042010-07-02T00:04:26.142-04:002010-07-02T00:04:26.142-04:00Nats fans can come and see Dukes when the Newark B...Nats fans can come and see Dukes when the Newark Bears come to Waldorf, MD to play the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (also of the Atlantic League) manage by former Red Sox Butch Hobson on August 9-12. (I grew up in DC.) I've seen Rickey Henderson play as a Bear--it'll be fun watching Dukes. The park is nice. It's not like the "real" minors. In every game, there are usually one or two old ex ML hitters whose game is mostly gone but whose power has not. They can still hit it further than most 22-year-olds, if they connect. Does anybody remember Hector Villaneuva?

If Dukes can take the frustration of unaffiliated minor league play, maybe he can make it back to the bigs. He certainly has the raw talent. I wish him well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3442809928829881676.post-43320157216854029542010-07-01T19:39:48.508-04:002010-07-01T19:39:48.508-04:00We will never know the real reason Dukes was relea...We will never know the real reason Dukes was released by the Nats but I am sure it was NOT just for his on the field performance, as management claimed. Something had to happen that the Nats aren't talking about. Proof positive that this is the case is that no other major league team would touch him with a ten foot pole.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
