Mark Zuckerman / NATS INSIDER |
Jordan Zimmermann gets the start in Game 1 this afternoon against right-hander Jenrry Mejia, making his season debut after dealing with an elbow injury. Davey Johnson is going with his same lineup from yesterday's win, including Steve Lombardozzi at second base and batting second. "I'm not changing a winning hand," the manager said, also speculating that Lombardozzi might try to beat him up if he wasn't playing after a 3-hit performance.
Ryan Mattheus, meanwhile, has been activated off the DL as the 26th man allowed for the doubleheader. The Nats will have to make a decision tonight, removing someone from the roster. They could just send Mattheus back to Syracuse, or they could demote another reliever. Drew Storen, a potential candidate for demotion, is battling the same flu Adam LaRoche had earlier in the week and probably is unavailable to pitch in either game today, according to Johnson.
Lots of updates to come from a long day at the ballpark, so please check back...

1:36 p.m. — We are underway for a long day of baseball as Jordan Zimmermann fires strike one to Juan Lagares. Pretty sparse crowd here at the moment, though I imagine it will grow as the afternoon progresses.
1:45 p.m. — Wow, did Daniel Murphy crush a hanging slider from Zimmermann. The pitch was a meatball, right over the heart of the plate, and Murphy responded by sending the ball off the facade of the second deck in deep right-center. The good news: Zimmermann struck out the other three batters he faced, so it's 1-0 Mets heading to the bottom of the first.
1:55 p.m. — Steve Lombardozzi remains hot, recording his fourth hit in two days, then taking third on Ryan Zimmerman's broken bat single. But the Nats again can't complete the rally. Adam LaRoche struck out on three pitches and Jayson Werth grounded out weakly to second base to end the first inning. If you're keeping track, the Nats are already 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position today, beginning a new streak.
2:08 p.m. — Denard Span's penchant for hitting grounders to the right side of the infield continue. He tapped one to the first baseman in the bottom of the second, continuing a season-long trend. Davey Johnson insists the issue is all about timing, saying that Span has been late on his swings; instead of hitting the ball in front of the plate, he's letting the ball get too deep in the strike zone. Whatever the case, it's been a continuing problem. Still 1-0 Mets after two.
2:22 p.m. — Another slider from Zimmermann to Murphy in the top of the third, and another laser over the fence for Murphy. He crushed this one right down the right-field line for a two-run homer. That makes it 3-0 Mets in the middle of the third.
2:33 p.m. — Oy, another squandered opportunity in the bottom of the third. Lombardozzi and Zimmerman again produced back-to-back singles with one out — Lombardozzi now has five hits in his last 12 innings — but LaRoche and Werth again stranded them without getting the ball out of the infield. So the Nats are now 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, with LaRoche and Werth responsible for all four. It's still 3-0 Mets after three.
2:53 p.m. — And another groundball to the right side by Span, this one resulting in a 4-3 double play. He's now made 12 of his l8 outs since the All-Star break on grounders to the right side. Still 3-0 Mets after four.
3:11 p.m. — It's shaping up to be another one of those games. The Nats have done nothing at the plate against Mejia, while Zimmermann has been victimized only by the two Murphy homers. Jordan hasn't been especially sharp, but he's been mostly effective, if not necessarily efficient. It remains 3-0 after five.
3:21 p.m. — It's been an uncharacteristic day for Zimmermann, who has been all over the place. He's already at 105 pitches through six laborious innings. He has managed to keep this game within striking distance, but he has been far from peak form.
3:49 p.m. — Oof. That'll do it for Zimmermann, who couldn't complete the seventh inning. He wound up being charged with two more runs after Fernando Abad entered and allowed an inherited runner to score. So Zimmermann is done after allowing five runs in 6 2/3 innings on 118 pitches. Here's a disturbing stat: Over his first 10 starts this season, he was 8-2 with a 1.71 ERA. Over his last 11 starts (assuming this score holds), he's 4-4 with a 4.81 ERA. 5-0 Mets at the stretch.
3:59 p.m. — Seven scoreless for Mejia, making his first start of the season. Enter Ryan Mattheus for his first appearance in 2-plus months. Still 5-0 Mets.
4:19 p.m. — The Nats finally got to take their hacks against the Mets bullpen in the eighth. Except they didn't do anything. Bryce Harper led off with a single, then was pulled for pinch-runner Scott Hairston (presumably to give him a bit of extra rest before the nightcap). Lombardozzi grounded into a fielder's choice and Zimmerman grounded into a double play, eliciting some boos from the crowd. Still 5-0 after eight.
4:35 p.m. — Oof, times 100. No sense detailing everything, but the Nats now trail 11-0. Mattheus was charged with three of the runs in the ninth. The other three were charged to Drew Storen, whom Davey Johnson suggested was unavailable earlier today because of the flu. Storen entered for Mattheus and immediately gave up a single, a double and a homer. Sweet Fancy Moses.
4:50 p.m. — Mercifully, it's over. Nats lose 11-0. And there's still another game to be played tonight, with Ross Ohlendorf facing Matt Harvey at 7:05 p.m.
And awayyyy we go...
ReplyDeleteI like it, Lombo deserves another start....2 in a row then take our cuts with Harvey
ReplyDeleteFlu....come on Davey....I know you want to provide endless cover for under-performance but that is just a joke. Knorr had it right....call them out at this point. Drew is stinking up the joint and Rizzo is taking away that card just like he took your Danny toy.
ReplyDeleteI like Lombo in that spot: ride him till he starts to come down to earth, then swap him out with Desmond, moving Span into the 6 spot, then Ramos, then Lombo. Span is 9 for 27 since coming out of the leadoff spot. Haven't seen the stats, but it doesn't look like he's passing up on any good pitches as he did in the leadoff spot.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteJayB,
So now you are moving into medical commentary?
Flu? Like it is Flu Season....everyone is getting it all over town?
ReplyDeleteI know nothing but CDC has risk of Flu at Minimal for VA and the whole US at this time.
ReplyDeleteBecause it would be smart with a doubleheader looming to voluntarily eliminate one of your pitching options, no matter what his recent struggles are. *SMH*
ReplyDeleteThis is just like HROD are and back issues. When Rizzo and Davey need cover for poor performance of "their" guys...they get cover.
ReplyDeletetrust your eyes...Drew is no help right now. He is so f'ed up mentally I would not use him in a 10 - 0 blow out.
ReplyDeleteOff-topic-Friday-tidbits:
ReplyDelete- The Yankees’ lineup had Brent Lillibridge, who came into the game hitting .081/.105/.081, second in the order. (and, of course, he had an RBI in their 2-0 win, raising his average to .098)
- Yankees as a team has seven HR's in July. (Alfonso Soriano has 8 in July)
- Cardinals' Edward Mujica, after 45 games. has a 19/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio
- Rockies' Wilton Lopez came into a 1-0 game (Rockies trailing), to pitch the ninth. He threw nine pitches, and left with the score 5-0. (Rockies ended up scoring 3 in the bottom of the 9th to lose 5-3).
(for the record, his nine pitches were: ball, double, ball, double, flyout, ball/strike (or strike/ball), single, homer)

ReplyDeleteFlu? Like it is Flu Season....everyone is getting it all over town?
ReplyDeleteNo, but someone else on his very same team got it.
Did you also disbelieve that ALR had it?
Unlike the mysterious but DL worthy ailments of HRod, Haren, et al, the flu actually is communicable.
ReplyDeleteNo I do not believe much that Nats Doctors say...do you? In this case ALR could indeed have been sick. Flu...not likely.....but Davey would just say Flu for Drew because he just said it last week. Davey will say anything to excuse this players from accountability for poor performance.

Whoa, dude, you're bringing some commonly known knowledge into this? ;-)
Davey will say anything to excuse this players from accountability for poor performance.
ReplyDeleteWhat he says publicly and what he says privately are two different things.
I'm happy he's not throwing Storen -- a 25 year old with obvious problems with his mental toughness -- under the bus.
Calling him out further in public serves nobody -- except, perhaps, to quell the frustration of some fans.
Can anyone explain to me why Zimmermann is pitching today's game instead of tonight against Harvey?
ReplyDeletepwilly, there could be some other reasons, and maybe a beat writer asked Davey, but one reason could be that Ohlendorf pitched 6 innings in relief of JZnn on Sunday, while JZnn only pitched 2 innings.
ReplyDeleteWonk
ReplyDeleteI know, I know--doesn't really suit the tenor of recent game day threads, does it?
How's this--
Span sucks!! Davey is old!!!
Gentlemen's agreement to split the doouble header
ReplyDeleteWas wondering the same thing, pwilly. It could be just because he's next up in the rotation, but it kinda feels like we're conceding the game against Harvey already.
ReplyDeleteVery good point pwilly...because the Nats are hoping for the split. Sad, but unfortunately true. Davey is known for conceding games, and I think he is doing it against Harvey tonight. You would think they would have confidence enough to beat the Mets in Game 1 without Zimmermann and hope he outdoes Harvey in Game 2. Looks like a white flag to me.
ReplyDeletePwilly ... because he will have the flu tonight
ReplyDeletethe Mets pitcher has only 24 innings under his belt this year, all in the minors. JZimm on the hill at home.
ReplyDeletesomeone tell me why I'm worried
Davey doesn’t want to use up his BP in the afternoon and instead save them for tonight when he may have to use them ... he’s expecting 8 from JZ today
ReplyDeleteAnybody know if statistically Zimmerman is better during the day or at night? I know he got shelled Sunday afternoon, but maybe his track record is better?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Ohlendorf's pitches are easier to pick up in daylight with that unique windup?
"Davey is known for conceding games"
ReplyDeleteyeah like when he benched his starters against Randy Johnson in the playoffs. wait, they won that game, never mind
If Zimmermann doesn't plow right through this Mets lineup he should have his All Star designation revoked.
ReplyDeleteI think they probably have a stomach virus -- people call it the flu all the time. The actual influenza has you down for a long time. Guessing they really do not want to describe their symptoms. Hand washing fellas!!!!
ReplyDeleteMost pitcher power pitch better at night, because it's a little harder to see. I remember Doc Gooden was a much better pitcher at night than the day when he was with the Mets.
ReplyDeleteLots of speculation that it was Davey who decided to pitch JZimm first and Ohlendorf against Harvey, but does anyone actually know -- as in factually -- which team set their line-up first?
ReplyDeleteHis career numbers (per baseball reference) are slightly better at night--3.29 vs 3.54 ERA, but the peripherals are all pretty close--for example, 7.3K/9 at night, 7.1K/9 during day. WHIP is a little higher because of more walks--1.25 WHIP daytime, 1.13 night-time.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, not exactly a night and day difference.
JayB, it's called the under performance flu.
ReplyDeleteThanks HH. Ohlendorf doesn't have much of a track record there. I've been surprised by the velocity of his fastball. I was under the impression he was a Lannan type pitcher, but he throws signficantly harder (93-95) in games I've seen thus far unless I was looking at the gun times wrong.
ReplyDeleteWas it a bad pitch by JZimm? Not watching the game...
ReplyDeletePitchers who throw a lot of strikes can be vulnerable to those kinds of fastball ambushes. Hope that is it. We should be able to get to this pitcher!
ReplyDeleteMrs B a slider that didnt slide just was tgere.
ReplyDeleteThanks MNF... Looks like Harp got a gift pitch in that series....

yeah like when he benched his starters against Randy Johnson in the playoffs. wait, they won that game, never mind
And then he let the Indians give the Oriole relievers all 4 losses with his brilliant management of the bullpen!!!
Accirding to FP, after secon at bat Schu corrected Harper's grip abd he went 3 for 4 after the fix.
ReplyDeleteNow to get him to only swing at strikes for tge complete fix.
Wanted to get this in sooner. Yesterday was very exciting and much needed. But if you really think that will turn around the season your wrong. It's fun to hope. But this is a bad team and the record proves it. I will be shocked if they get 2 this weekend. But hey it's still fun and we can all dream.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wet blanket.
ReplyDeleteALR swings at 2 out of the zone and lets the one in the zone go.
ReplyDeleteSame one harper k on no where near a strike.
Could we please talk about this game obly, nothing about any future activity, please.
ReplyDeleteIt would make it a lot more enjoyable for most.
Needed a sac fly or something from Adam... *Sigh*
ReplyDeleteBut MNF, we only have 8 innings left in this game. Think of all the material with 3,480 innings left (not including extra)
ReplyDeleteIf people want to be possitive fine, but we have negative Nelkies.
DeleteWe could lose every game all season , and I hate reading negative predictions.
I forgot... I cant blink or I will miss Jordan Z... He works fast...
ReplyDeletePlus, it's not a bad team. It's a mediocre team that is not playing to its ability. Stranger things have happened.
ReplyDeleteIt is good team not playing near irs abilities, but as I said lets talk about this game
DeleteIts a game tgread not a prediction tgread.
It would be nice to wear out Meija and deplete their BP before the night game, but kinda hard to do when he's throwing strikes and our bats aren't making contact. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteKurt did a nice job of fouling a couple off, at least.
So Davey says Span's problem is he's letting the ball get too deep in the strike zone? Isn't that what FP calls "letting the ball travel"? Isn't hta a good thing? And can you let the ball travel too deep in the strike zone and pull the ball weakly to 1B or 2B?
ReplyDeleteWe just need to wuit swinging at Meija's junk and swing at the fast ball. Mist his junk end up not in tge zone.
ReplyDeleteWow... What the heck... Jordan threw 3 straight balls and then delivered a golfer???
ReplyDeleteSame craper sluder as first homer. A slider that slid nowhere.
DeleteNy God what is zim up to? 0-2 count on Murphy then 3 balls no where near the pkate.
ReplyDeleteThen the same slider he homered he last time he homered again.
Note to Suzuki no sliders to Murphy.
Hitting him hard the last three starts.
ReplyDeleteSure seems like it.
DeleteCan JZimm just stop with the sliders to Murphy?
ReplyDelete3 runs are a lot for this team to get back. I don't like for them to get behind early.
ReplyDeleteMan in scoring position again. As of now Mets 1-1 nats 0-2
DeleteJordan has both Lagares and Murphy at 0-2... Let them off the hook...
ReplyDeleteLombo another hit.schu's advisevhelping him.
ReplyDeleteLombo is locked in right now...
ReplyDeleteLonbardozzi "hit em where they ain't".
ReplyDeleteNeed a tater
ReplyDelete3-run lead is pretty much insurmountable for the Nats, not to mention Zimmermann likely to give up about 7 runs.
ReplyDeleteAlLR 0 for 2 with RISP
ReplyDeleteNats Guy - I actually want them to have batting practice right here... Keep the line moving.. Knock this guy around a little bit...
ReplyDeleteYa know, welcome him to the majors!
I hardly ever read or post during games but what the heck.
ReplyDeleteHope this is just an anomaly with Jordan and he turns it around.
I have a totally unrelated question. Yesterday Davey was ejected. We win the game. Does that win go on Davey's overall record for wins/losses? I am guessing it does but I just wondered.
I would guess yes
DeleteMark
ReplyDeleteI second 222's "huh?" (if I may paraphrase) about the explanation of Span's problems in your 2:08 update.
How is he late on the ball AND pulling it?
Man this team can't buy a hit with risp....really hard to be this bad...against a AA pitcher to boot
ReplyDeleteI think the odds of winning Keno are better than those of anybody on this team getting a hit with RISP. What a bunch of choke artists.
ReplyDeleteThat last pitch (based on pitch track) to Jayson looked like it was in the dirt...
ReplyDelete3 of the K have been in the dirt. I made 2 comments, tge batters are swinging at off speed junk and letting the fst balls go
DeleteMy goodness. Lay off this guys junk. It lands in dirt just about every time.
ReplyDeleteSwing at the fast balls obly.
Already 0-4 with RISP, and none of tge 4 at bats look like tge hitter had a clue how to identify a pitch.
On pace for no runs and 15 hits...well done guys.
ReplyDeleteNever seen that most I have seen was 13 hit shutout ( or maybe it was 13 left on base)
DeleteThis is just laughable now. All I do is chuckle to myself and say "typical".
ReplyDeletesjm, I am pretty sure yes. Otherwise Billy Martin and Earl Weaver would have half as many wins as they are credited for. I think they even get credit when they are suspended.
ReplyDeleteUnh... I didnt even realize that the Mets still had Ike Davis... I thought they sent him down for a minute...
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that this team breathes a sigh of relief every time they win a goddamn game....as if THIS is finally the game to turn it around. WEEEE SUUUUUCK
ReplyDeleteCome to the cobclussiin we don't suxk, but we are totalky not focused on every play.
DeleteNo team might be, but we are less than most.
Why would you walk Ike Davis. He is a k waiting to happen
ReplyDeleteYes, Jordan... Just throw strikes!
ReplyDeleteZim's fastball has looked fine. Quit pitching so many sliders. Just mix tgem in some.
ReplyDeleteNow swing at fastballs strikes, and not swing at the breaking balls going low.
ReplyDeleteI hate when the other team scores first and I immediately feel like the game is over.
ReplyDeleteDesi did it right 2 breaking balls low fast ball = single
ReplyDeletePitcher gives up a couple runs early....bats go silent in the middle innings...bullpen chokes away an insurance run or two...nats rally in the 8th or 9th falling just short.....change the script boys...this one sucks
ReplyDeleteWhat a Spantastic AB!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell was that?
ReplyDeleteIt was pulled because it was inside ball 4.
DeleteSpan quit hitting to second.
ReplyDeleteWhen he pulls he stinks. He needs to be fined every time he pulls a ball to get out of this stupid habit.
Nats are a fastball hitting team... As long as Mejia continues to throw junk.... well, this is the result..
ReplyDeleteManassas
ReplyDeleteIn case you haven't noticed hes a pull hitter.
And that is why he is having trouble.
DeleteI bet he didnt pull as much as a Twin.
This is where a lack of coaching is evident.
ReplyDeleteWe swing at crap and tgere is no one kicking their ass saying what to do.
They are making bad choices on their own, so they need a coach riding them.
Worse offenders today Harper, ALR, Werth and span.
Span has got to go!
ReplyDeleteCan't spell Denard Span without "4-3"
ReplyDeleteGood line.
DeleteSchu needs to start riding him right now to hit to left or hit the pines. His choice.
What is going on with Jordan? Is he getting squeezed or just command is off?
ReplyDeleteMore like he trying to get them to chaise.
DeleteTge two sliders to Murphy were awful, most the rest reasonable.
Mrs b
ReplyDeleteHe isn't throwing junk.he is throwing mostly fastballs at 94. He is throwing off speed when he's ahead.
Now squeezed
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is 3 runs isn't terrible. The 0 put up by the Nats is.
ReplyDeleteCan't hold runners to save their lives. An old man could run on them.
ReplyDeleteJd - Listening to C&D and following via my brother, who is telling me that the Nats are swinging at his junk pitches and missing the few fastballs...
ReplyDeleteEverything was away to Murphy seems like...
And no sliders.
DeleteHarper a solid play.
ReplyDeleteNow hitters lets get runs. Do not swing at off speed low stuff, hit the fast balls.
Would have liked a K there but an out is no complaint.
ReplyDeleteALR, Werth 0-4, 2Ks, RISP.
ReplyDeleteAlso, can you imagine the venom on here if it was Haren that gave up 2 HRs to Murphy?
As to Span, I am with HH and 222 concerning Davey's statement that he's letting the ball go too deep in the strike zone. Huh? I personally see Denard hitting everything to the right side of 2nd base. That's not what he was doing in April and June.He should go up with a plan to hit to left field instead of listening to the he should pull crap.
Zimm getting a high pitch count already just like Gio did yesterday. Doesn't bode well for the bullpen.
ReplyDeleteHe getsxahead then tries to get them to swing at a ball and tgey are not.
DeleteFirst time through line up 3 for 9, second time 3 for 9
ReplyDeleteCan't spell Denard Span without "4-3"
ReplyDeleteWell, sure you can. Just substitute "3U", or on a rare occasion "P7".
Guess one can't expect to score 2 games in a row. This team is pathetic. With Matt Harvey coming up. Oh boy.
ReplyDeleteWe won the Harvey game last time after all tgis whoa crap fron tge Negative Nellies
DeleteWho's a bigger turd? Span or the guy who keeps playing Span? I'm done headed east. 4th place baby.
ReplyDeleteDo you enjoy always being negative? I would hate beibg negatice all tge time.
DeleteInterestingly enough, besides the 2 and 3 today, none of the rest of the line up is really doing anything.... Yet folks keep talking about Span...
ReplyDeleteAdam and Jayson have left 4 in RISP themselves...
Let's face it... The entire line up is out of sync...
Because they are not swinging at fastballs and are swinging at the breaking balls.
DeleteAlso, can you imagine the venom on here if it was Haren that gave up 2 HRs to Murphy?
ReplyDeleteYes. And your point is?
When the team has lost the last 11 games you started, you don't get as much rope from the fans as the guy who is in the conversation for the Cy Young. I think that's perfectly reasonable.
And I don't. I couldnt be happy if I thought negative that muxh.
DeleteEven if isvhappening I refuse give in to tge negatice predictions.
I would rather be wrong and positive, tgen rughtb being negative.
It rubs me the wong way more than bad pkay does.
If you're not a negative nelly at this point, do you just not care? or are you going to be dumbfounded and depressed when we aren't able to make up 16 games on the braves over the month of september?
ReplyDeleteThe play is negative, but you can still believe in positive ir predict negative.
DeleteActualky not hard at all.
I asume we will the east until we cant.
Also, can you imagine the venom on here if it was Haren that gave up 2 HRs to Murphy?
ReplyDelete====
Actually, for me, this is a cause for concern.. Jordan's last 2/3 starts make me wonder if the neck injury is really bothering him more than he says... This isn't the Jordan we are used to seeing... I tried to chalk the last game up as a bad game (sorta like how SS had that game before the AS break where he was blown over) ....
With Haren, I expect at least 3 HRs given up per game...
I remember going to a Mets - Cubs doubleheader as a kid on banner day. The Mets (then my team) score one run in both games.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I's see something like that again, but the Nats could be heading there considering tonight's starter for the Mets. Hope I'm wrong!
Not depressed. Disgusted. It's minor league. Get tossed Davey. We need a win.
ReplyDeleteAnother stolen base... Ridiculous...
ReplyDeleteRizzo does need to hire a coach to teach pitchers how to hold runners, we have had about a 10% throw out rate. Not sure what the league average is but i know it is a lot above 10%.
DeleteIt rubs me the wrong way more than bad play does.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya MNF, but if that's really the case, you need to get your priorities straight.
I see the same bad crap and hate it. I hate the negative nelly talk more.
DeleteI didnt say i like tge bad play.
I tell you what ticks me off and really makes me negative. A guy who misspells every 4 th word he types
ReplyDeleteI hate that too.
DeleteI dont mispell i mis type.
There is a differece.
But I agree I hate that.

What a classy comment.....and I believe you have promised multiple times to be "done" or "headed out" or whatever. Why don't you do us a favor and follow through for once?
He told month ago he was gone and hasnt left yet.
DeleteWe were advised yesterday that spelling and grammar ... sorry, "grammer" ... ain't matter.
ReplyDeleteBut while I'm here: I said to get Bartolo Colon this spring. Espinosa-plus for one year of Cano would work, I said. I'm telling you now: Nate Schierholtz.
That's all.

ReplyDelete"I asume we will the east until we cant"
And even then we didn't lose. We just ran out of season.
I mean that in the most positive way-you have to think that way.
We are good enough just not playing like it
DeleteIf Storen has the flu why is he tgere.
ReplyDeleteIs ALR clueless this guy is tgrowing nothing but junk, and he swings at it.
Werth gets a hit now that no one is on. How nice.
Again overmatched against a mediocre pitcher.
ReplyDeleteThat was not positive or meant to be.
ReplyDeleteThe 2013 nats; Boosting Cy Young credentials one flail at a time.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was a mirage. Amazing not in a positve way.
ReplyDeleteOur hitters have no one to blame but themselves.
ReplyDeleteThese balls are all low that they striking out on eitger upper cut it to hit or don't swing.
It not rocket science. It simply bad identification of pitches.
They need to stop using the unpires as excuses.
ReplyDeleteOccasionally umps are a problem, no excuse.
DeleteWhy are they swinging at pitches out of the zone? It seems all of the strikeouts are swinging out of the zone.
ReplyDeleteI thought they are suppose to seek "fastballs".
They have swung at lots of low pitches.
DeleteThe strategy was terrible.
Just swing at fastballs and forget anything else. But it must be as obvious to them as to us.
Its not positive.
ReplyDeleteHitters arent doing what they are supposed to do...
ReplyDelete*sigh*
Such a talented bunch that are vastly under-achieving...
NO NO NO MNF. Sorry buy NO!!! They are not good enough in fact the absolutely STINK TO HIGH hEAVEN
ReplyDeleteWe just dont agree then.
DeleteDesi is now 4 for his last 25 at bats...sorry dude you look like a child complaining to the umpire about the pitcher being set...complain before the at bat or have your manager...which one assumes is involved in the game talk to the umpire before the inning. this what players on losing teams do...whine and complain
ReplyDeleteis it possible, with Harvey pitching that the Nats will go 18 scoreless innings?
Theorhetically we needed Bob Davidson here as he would call a balk everytime on the same move.
DeleteAnother SB followed by a single
As I said Rizzo needs to hire a holding on coach as obviously McCatty is not coaching it.
If Nats drop both games, they are in 4th place
ReplyDeleteThat is correct. So dont lose both.
DeleteI don't what disgusts me more, ALR's inability to recognize a change up, Desmond's inability to recognize a slider off the plate or Secret wasian man.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty disgusted with all three.
Ditto
DeleteCan't believe I'm saying this, but the Mets are just a better team. Lot of prospects on the way, also.
ReplyDeleteWould you trade all 25 for all 25?
DeleteWhy are they swinging at pitches out of the zone?
ReplyDeleteI strongly suspect they don't actually know that the pitch is out of the zone when they commit to swinging at it.
They should the low ball starts low and gets lower it isnt starting high at all.
DeletePitch recognition is a major issue... Not sure how much a hitting coach will be able to correct that...
ReplyDeleteThey need help how ever it happens
DeleteWhy not use bull pen in 7th...JZim looked gassed in the 6th and once again Davey pushed the envelope and was wrong....again. the man has no feel for his team or his coaches input
ReplyDeleteDavey has not done a good job understanding his pitching staff.
DeleteNats couldnt hold runners if their lives depended on it...
ReplyDeleteMcCatty has got to get them together...
McCatty has not stressed it since he has been here.
DeleteThat is why I say they need a coach specifically for that.
Can they not hold any runners.
ReplyDeleteMaybe me.
DeleteWould it be an understatement to say that the Nats are in a bad place right now?
ReplyDeleteSigh - I hope I am wrong, but I feel this game is now over...
ReplyDeleteAnd again, Abad comes in and goofs up...
Geez this is really bad baseball.
ReplyDeleteReally? Another SB, this time with a lefty on the mound. Nats pitchers couldn't hold a turtle on base.
ReplyDeleteAbad bucking for that demotion
ReplyDeleteAbad isn't doing much to assure his spot on the roster after today.
ReplyDeleteAbad probably going down.
DeleteAbad may be the odd man out... He started off the season well, but then all of a sudden - KABOOM, disaster struck...
ReplyDeleteI would assume that the third time around, players like ALR, Desi and Zim would have figured this guy out like Werth did. It is OK to go 0-2...but if you are a good player you can not lose every battle...that is the problem with this team...no consistency and sounding like a broken record...very over rated players our best players just are not very good. This is not Harvey pitching this is guy who just got back from the minors
ReplyDeleteIt does not matter now, because the score is out of reach, again....
Is it mathematically possible for them to be passed by the Marlins. I sure hope not.
ReplyDeleteDaniel Murphy has driven in 4 runs this game, according to C&D...
ReplyDeleteunh...
I'm going to wake up tomorrow, and the Nats are going to be tied with the New York Mets. In Late July. All the expletives in the english language couldn't do my frustration justice.
ReplyDeleteZim went 2-2 in his first 2 ABs Mick.
ReplyDeleteAfter this weekend, Nats may be playing to stay out of last place...who would have ever imagined that in April?
ReplyDeleteSo now, we have to hope Ross O is perfect tonight and our batters get to Harvey so we can get to their BP....
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the Nats can live up to the pressure...
David...your right... ALR and Desi did not... does not excuse Zim's at bat though
ReplyDeleteso much for the hitting issues put to rest

its possible they could be past by the Astros
I've been wondering for awhile now why teams don't just constantly run on the Nats given how pathetic they are at holding runners on base and catching basestealrs.
ReplyDeleteAs for Abad, he's just regressing to the norm of what he was with the Astros-a bad pitcher.
Abad came from a culture of losers and unfortunately he may be right at home
ReplyDeleteI don't think it'll happen, but knowing how weird the game of baseball is, it wouldn't be shocking if this Majia scrub shuts us down and we get to Harvey. It always seems to happen that way
ReplyDeleteif the Astros did pass Nats, the good news is they would get the first pick in the draft...maybe Bryce has a cousin, lol
ReplyDeleteI'm going to wake up tomorrow, and the Nats are going to be tied with the New York Mets.
ReplyDeleteFor all those who are absolutely certain that the Nats will lose both games, you do remember that the last time we faced Harvey we won, right? The Mets bullpen is pretty bad. There's hope.
pedro, I really don't get why you feel you need to predict what will happen over the next 7 hours and get frustrated about it as if it's already happened. But I'll tell you what, if you are right and we lose both games of the DH, I won't criticize your incessantly negative and doom predicting posts again this season. But if we pull out this game, or win game 2, you'll stop making those kind of posts. For MNF's sake. Deal?
Karl - I remember DJ saying he didnt want to over-use Abad becuz he thought that may have led to him not being efficient in Houston...
ReplyDeleteBP seemingly is still an issue... But our O is so screwed up, everyone has to be perfect...
Too much pressure...
Welcome back, Ryan Mattheus....
ReplyDeleteonly positive today is Lombo who should play full time period.
ReplyDeleteJZim I thought did OK, I put it on Davey and Cat for allowing him to pitch the 7th...once again, the manager puts his team in position to lose rather than win...same old story
