Submit questions for Beltway Baseball

I'd say it's been a crazy couple of weeks for the Nationals, but really it's been a crazy season for the Nationals, the news and drama never letting up. So there will be plenty to discuss when CSNwashington.com's Chase Hughes and the Washington Times' Amanda Comak join me this afternoon for the latest installment of Beltway Baseball.

We'll be taping the show from Nationals Park, then posting it for viewing tomorrow morning. But first we need your questions on the Nats. Submit them here, and we'll pick the best ones to answer on the show.

40 comments:

  1. Your thoughts if Lannan remains with the team for the year or is shipped off. Also your thoughts on changes in maturity of Harper.

  2. Michael Morse looks like he is going stir crazy. When does he start taking live hitting and actually throwing? Will he go on a rehab assignment?

  3. How are DeRosa and Lidge progressing? How do you think they handle Wang when he comes back? Will Det go to the BP? (I am assuming Perry gets shipped back to Cuse)

  4. Why doesn't the Nats send Moore back down to AAA to get more at bats and playing time in left field? They should bring up a guy like Xavier Paul who is hitting above .300 with a .400 OBS.

  5. Who does Lombardozzi have to get pictures on to get a start once in a while?

  6. Any scuttle on why Nats scouts are looking at other catchers? Do they lack confidence in Jesus Flores or is this just backup plans. I'm hearing Shoppach, Castro, Jaso and Laird.

    Looks like backups.

  7. Peter Gammons didn't say rumor on the Nats scouts out looking at Shoppach, he said it as fact.

The other 3 all make sense but the Nats need a 1 year stop-gap or could wait it out.

    Here's what MLBTR has:

  8. What do you think about the rumor that Ian Desmond finally joined Tweeter? Any news when Bam-Bam will rejoin?

  9. Jus' wonderin if Coach Bo works regularly with the Oppo Boppo guy on OF skills?

Given that he has only been playing the OF professionally for a little over a year, he seems to be doing pretty well. Also seems that the more difficult adjustment for him is reading balls to him in CF.

  10. How is the team feeling about the upcoming schedule? Pretty much the next 30 days we play top teams.

  11. With all the HBP lately (Braun vs No Wright), national media has said that the Hammels thing is not dead. Is it? I thought that since JZ plunked him, it was over. Does the fact that Hammels admitted to hitting Haper make it more of an issue?

  12. No disrespect but I doubt you guys have information on the things about which I am most curious: Candid, reliable information on the status of Purke, Solis, Rendon.

  13. Are the Nats now likely to keep LaRoche for 2013? With Morse, Harper and Werth in the fold does that take them out of the market for a FA center fielder such as Bourn or Upton?

  14. This story is really cool, and I wonder how our catchers rank at framing pitches, especially Flores. It also explains why batters see strikes and umps don't always see the same. I read Leon might be back in four weeks. That seems optimistic to me, what is the current estimate?

why jose molina is valuable to the Rays

  15. 1. Second the motion with Moore -- what was the point of bringing him up if he wasn't going to play?

Note: this is a simple question, in that: I'm not necessarily suggesting he "needs" his at bats, or anything. The question is a general question: why you do bring up _any_ guy, and burn an option, if he's not going to play. Even more so for a guy who was lighting it up in AAA?

    Two more questions:

    2. How long until Rosenbaum gets promoted?

    3. What's the best guess for Corey Brown's season? (And, related: why wasn't he brought up instead of Moore? And, related: since he's a CF, wouldn't it make sense to bring him up _before_ Morse starts playing the field again?)

  16. If he maintains his current numbers, is it a safe bet that Harper remains with the Big club, or is a return to Syracuse possible?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Did Michael Morse consult the team doctors to make sure that pie-ing Xavier Nady last night would not set his recovery back?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Who will be the next guy to win a Goon Squad t-shirt? Okay, maybe not that one. Realizing that a lot can change between now and the game, who is your Nationals All-Star pick, or could there actually be (gasp) more than one for the first time since (if memory serves) 2005?

  19. LaRoche's 1000th hit, Nady's 100th HR--any other notable milestones we might watch for, coming up?

  20. This is the latest the Nats have picked in the MLB draft (16th) since they came to DC. Would love insight on where the Nats are leaning:

    - An advanced college player that could help soon, but may have limited upside; or
    - Longer term prospect with high-upside.

Also, would like to know if the organization has any particular need areas that will be stressed in this draft.

Also, would love to hear updates on each of the top picks from last year's draft (Goodwin, Rendon, Purke and Meyer).

  21. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I will ask anyway...is there any way the Nats would consider a 6 man rotation?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Follow-up question, any recommendations for sites that track pending (as opposed to achieved) milestones?

  23. How do you think the team would feel about a Detwiler demotion to the bullpen and, assuming that is the case, the likelhood that Gorzelany will have to be moved somewhere.

  24. @natsfan1a - http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/milestones.cgi

    A quick browse shows:
    Hits-
Ryan Zimmerman 967 33 to milestone
Mark DeRosa 914 86 to milestone

    Errors-
Ryan Zimmerman 97 3 to milestone

    Assists-
Ian Desmond 966 34 to milestone

  25. - How does Lombo get more PT?
    - What's the corresponding change when Wang comes off the DL?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm guessing I'm too late for questions, but dou think any of the current starters have volunteered to Davey that they would be willing to move into the bullpen?

Also, Michael Morse says he's shooting for being a DH against the Red Sox. Will he go on rehab assignment prior and if so, how many games are enough?

    When is DeRosa back?

Not sure why you don't find this information reliable, but here you go...

Purke -- He's NOT injured. I've asked Mike Rizzo about this three times in the last month. They're simply keeping him in Viera for now so they can keep his innings count low. Easier to do that in a controlled environment than at an actual minor-league affiliate. He's expected to join the rotation at either Hagerstown or Potomac at some point this summer.

Solis -- He had Tommy John surgery in February. Won't pitch at all this year. Won't resume throwing again until later this summer.

Rendon -- Had surgery for a fractured ankle. I know there's some question about whether he'll return to play this season, but it's kind of a moot point. There's a chance he makes it back in time for the end of Potomac's season. But even if he doesn't, he'll play in the Florida instructional league in September and then probably the Arizona Fall League in October. So he will play some baseball in 2012, it's just a matter of when.

Feel free to give this information as much or as little credence as you like...

  29. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I will ask anyway...is there any way the Nats would consider a 6 man rotation?

And do you think they'll consider trading the first draft pick?

    (ducking)

  30. If he maintains his current numbers, is it a safe bet that Harper remains with the Big club, or is a return to Syracuse possible?

I can see an Onion headline here:
Rizzo demoted to Syracuse for suggesting sending Harper down
Lerner: 'He just needs to work on a few things.'

    Or maybe
Albert Pujols demoted to AAA -- buys entire league in pique
Woulda-been minors teammates: 'Geez, that guy's touchy'

  31. I almost posted the same thing but thought it might be too snarky. I guess I owe myself a Coke or something.

  32. Not the Onion but along the same (i.e., satirical) lines, and in light of recurring discussions regarding an innings limit for Strasburg, I thought this item was kinda funny.

  33. That's pretty funny 1A. Sounds like the program Livo was on.

  34. Farid in Idaho:

How much does the value of a potential trade target change with the needs of the club.

For instance, the Nationals didn't need a left fielder in spring training but could have really used one to start the season.

Would the cost of getting another team's left fielder increase because of the Nationals need?

  35. lol, indeed!

  37. Here's a question:
What will happen with Chien-Ming Wang from now until the end of the season. He's a nice backup in case some one gets hurt or for when Strasburg gets high up on innings, but at the moment he has no where to go. As they didn't trade Lannan, do you see them trading Wang, leaving him in the minors, putting Detwiler in the bullpen, or even another option?
